Introduction
Sascha Julian Oks graduated from University of Bayreuth and Stellenbosch University, South Africa, with a Master of Science in business administration. His research and teaching focuses on the effects of the digital transformation on industrial value creation with an emphasis on industrial cyber-physical systems. In several design-oriented studies he has built web-tools and the Industry 4.0 demonstrator “PID4CPS” to support organizations in the implementation of their digitization strategies.

Project
The aim of the research project is to develop a platform-based assistance system for matching sensor solutions with digital business models, which will enable plant developers to identify user-centric requirements already during the planning phase. Furthermore, stakeholders such as equipment and sensor manufacturers can use this tool to develop and offer data-driven services to complement their hardware products. In addition to the development of new products, this assistance system should also open up extended functionalities for new service-based business models in the retrofit of existing plants.
Project
Complex topics and systems can be represented in a simplified way using models. The latter enables to run simulations, which allows conclusions to be drawn about future system behavior. In addition, it is important for user-centered system design to provide the stakeholders involved with a reference point against which technologies, functionalities and processes can be discussed. The Industry 4.0 demonstrator PID4CPS combines these requirements and makes it possible to illustrate the digital transformation through a model in workshops. The demonstrator can be configured for specific applications due to its modular design and in doing so explain digital technologies, value creation and business models in order to create a common understanding. In the system design process, it can be used for iterative evaluation and consolidation integrating different stakeholder groups. PID4CPS is also established in the area of education and training on new systems and programs.
