Earthquakes are among the most complex and expensive natural catastrophes that humans face, which strikes without warning. As a result, earthquake prediction has become a challenging and crucial task for humanity. Efficacious earthquake prediction has the potential to significantly minimize earthquake destruction, which is highly pertinent for the community and people, and there appears to be an upsurge of interest and scientific research on seismic events prediction. With the technological revolution in the fields of sensing applications, cloud computing, communication networks, internet of things, fog computing, and big data, it is now plausible to design an integrated earthquake prediction system that can effectively alert earthquake-affected regions. In this study, a collaborative Internet of Things (IoT)-centered smart earthquake monitoring and prediction framework is proposed with the congruence of fog and cloud computing. The IoT methodology is employed to collect data from sensors and transferred it to the fog layer for pre-processing, feature extraction, selection, and classification using random forest. Further, Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is used for forecasting earthquake magnitude at the cloud layer. The experimental results of the proposed model demonstrate its effectiveness in monitoring and predicting earthquakes. Moreover, testing of the developed prototype has revealed that by leveraging fog, it is possible to achieve significant delay reduction while maintaining high accuracy and throughput, making it more real-time compliant.

The idea of vehicular communication has evolved dramatically over the past two decades apparently with technological advancements that accord low power and memory consumption devices, and yet providing low latency and high performing abilities. In the 20th century, vehicular communications were primarily done through singling blinkers, tail lights, and hazard lamps, essentially serving rudimentary purposes. In the early 2000s, the term “VANET” was first introduced for demonstrating road safety and navigation. By the end of 2012, the term vehicle-to-everything(V2X) was coined with IEEE 802.11p as the supporting standard for underneath technology. The adequately increasing publications and development of VANET simulators like SUMO acknowledge the fact that there has been an intriguing interest in vehicular research. While publications are increasing massively in numbers, perhaps, we identified a lack of comprehensive scientometric analysis for this field. This paper aims at analyzing the researches carried out between 2009 and 2020 using Scopus data with a scientometric approach thereby highlighting the citation patterns and indulging journals, authors, institutes, countries in the field of vehicular communication. Furthermore, keywords analysis is also staged using VOSViewer to visualize the research patterns. This paper also tries to classify the publications into distinct clusters so formed in VOSViewer using classifying techniques, hence, to make the voluminous data acumen for the publication stride.

The edge/fog computing has the potential to gear up the healthcare industry by providing better and faster health services to the patients. In healthcare systems where every second is crucial, the edge computing can be helpful to reduce the time between data capture and analytics in a powerful manner. In edge computing, the network edge devices are configured in such a manner that they can handle critical analysis and make necessary decisions instead of sending the captured health data directly to the cloud. However, lifetime of the edge network is a critical factor and thus an energy efficient network architecture has to be designed to achieve the above mentioned goal. In this regard, this research presents a new extremal optimization tuned micro genetic algorithm (EO-μGA) based clustering technique for the sake of efficient routing and prolonging network lifetime by saving the battery power of network edge devices. Moreover, a novel fitness function with a set of relevant criteria of edge devices such as energy factor, average intra-cluster distance, average distance to cluster leader over data analytics center, average sleeping time, and computational load has been considered for the selection of the cluster leader which will be responsible for managing intra-cluster and inter-cluster data communication. The simulation results show that the proposed EO-μGA based clustering model offers a higher network lifetime and a least amount of transmission energy consumption per node as compared to various state of the art optimization algorithms.

The primary sources of big data nowadays are from cloud computing, social networks, and the internet of things, and henceforth the data analytics has gained popularity these days, with the increasing demand for these technologies. This study presents scientometric analysis to identify overall growth, emerging trends, and global scope of data analytics research during 2010–2019. This study uses a bibliometric database retrieved from the Scopus in CSV files that contain bibliographic information. This study provides a detailed look of bibliometric features of Scopus indexed documents and analyses bibliometric networks to identify the hidden information from the downloaded dataset. This study focuses on the research publication growth, subject categories, geographical distribution, citation, and productivity parameters of bibliometric data. Furthermore, it identifies significant major contributors, highly cited publications, prominent journals, influential institutes, and research collaborations. This study also reveals research frontiers,and hotspots of data analytics research by analyzing keyword co-occurrence using VOSviewer. The outcomes of this study present the applications, emerging trends, and global research landscape over the last decade that help to understand fundamental research and the directions of future research in this field.

In recent years, natural and manmade disasters such as floods, earthquakes, wildfires, and tsunamis have occurred with human losses and environmental deterioration. Henceforth, to reduce the damage caused by these catastrophic events, the administration and government need to track victims and perform synchronized relief efforts on time at the disaster sites. The promising technologies of Internet communication technology (ICT), like the Internet of things, cloud computing, and data analytics, can assist various phases of disaster management. Moreover, the role of higher education spans all stages of disaster management: preparedness, response, and recovery. As educational and research contributions, higher educational institutes are essentially involved in all the disaster management stages to contribute to society broadly. Henceforth, the scientific analysis of disaster management literature is required to analyze the overall structure and developments in this domain. This study presents a scientometric analysis that evaluates the ICT-assisted disaster management research over the last 15 years (2005–2020). It presents various empirical ways to analyze the evolution, status, and result of ICT-assisted in disaster management research. This study provides extensive insight into the publication growth, citation analysis, collaboration, and keyword co-occurrence analysis for technological trends of the ICT-assisted disaster management research. It identifies key journals, countries, and organizations that significantly contributed to this research domain. Overall, this study presents various patterns, research trends, and collaborations as the basic structure for future research in this field.
