The aim of this initiative is to bring together excellences in manufacturing research in order to define and deliver the new competences required by future engineers working in the context of the fourth industrial revolution. In particular: - New contents and models will be developed with particular emphasis given to the aspect related with a sustainable transition to the digital era. - New educational units will be formulated in term of independent learning blocks which can be easily integrated in existing mainstream programs in the domain of industrial, mechanical, production and electrical engineering.

Fenotipar para melhorar as culturas do futuro Tendo em conta os cenários climáticos disponíveis, o alvo dos melhoradores poderá ser a produção de variedades capazes de assegurar um mínimo de produção num contexto mais alargado de stresses abióticos (i.e. mais robustas). Tal pode implicar a opção por variedades ou cultivares menos produtivas, mas mais estáveis. Uma solução de longo prazo passa por explorar o germoplasma de variedades regionais e o de espécies silvestres geneticamente próximas das domesticadas. Estamos apenas a iniciar a exploração dos imensos recursos genéticos existentes nos bancos de sementes em todo o mundo. A sua caracterização potenciará o melhoramento e obtenção de cultivares com maior robustez climática e maior resistência a pragas e doenças.
