The aim of this article is to analyse how the current design and governance of French industrial policy is impeding technical and economic change. Industrial policy needs to address the “grand challenges” such as climate change by driving radically new economic and technical development. After analysing recent trends and the various stakeholders an...

The aim of this article is to analyze the power of trade unions to influence a French industrial policy. The study examines the case of the medical imaging industry, in which a trade union managed to convince both the firms and the government to invest in a new innovation center.

This article deals with actual collaborations and cross-fertilization between Régulation Theory-a French institutional economics school-and the Bourdieusian sociology of fields, together with that of Neil Fligstein. First, we show that Régulation Theory has slowly incorporated several concepts and methods of the sociology of fields, due to their si...

Article
The aim of this thesis is to understand the institutional mechanisms that drive a manufacturing firm to act on and react to regulations. We construct first a methodological framework based on the theory of fields that can analyze both regulatory dynamics and affected industrial dynamics. Second, we elucidate this double dynamic by empirically study...

The real driving emissions regulation will have several critical consequences for the European diesel market. The catalyst technologies needed to comply are costly, both for car manufacturers and for consumers, and are difficult to implement in diesel small cars. However, the automotive firms are stakeholders in the political negotiations in the Eu...

This paper aims to investigate new theoretical approaches for explaining the concept of French filiere. By using the institutional meso-economics policy point of view (Jullien, 2011), we highlight a gap between the latest French policies for structuring industries into filieres and the objective pursued by such policies. Our demonstration is organi...
