Introduction
I am a qualitative-bias human geographer with interests in migration, gender and development, refugee studies and the broader field of environmental politics. My recent works use political ecology as a theoretical framework to analyse host-refugee environmental conflicts and an attempt to conceptualise obstacles to local integration of refugees in protracted situation in the global South. I am interested in forging research collaborations in the areas mentioned above.

Globally, migration has become an important livelihood strategy for many poor households. Estuaries and seashores play a central role as points of human settlement and marine resource use. While access to a natural resources/biodiversity could be a pull factor for migration, biological and socioeconomic reasons such as overpopulation, reduced fish...
The conditions of camp-based refugees expose them to rapid spread of infectious diseases. Thus, this study examined camp-based refugees’ adherence to the COVID-19 protocols at the peak and post-peak of the pandemic in Ghana. The data for the analysis were collected between 29th July and 6th August 2021 in two camps in Ghana. It covered 763 refugees...
The ever-increasing protracted refugee situations globally have put local integration of refugees into hosting societies high on the international agenda. While recent international frameworks have called for a deeper integration of refugees through the mainstreaming of refugee service provision into national service provision systems, little atten...
Systematic literature reviews provide the foundation for evidence-based research in a particular field of study. In this regard, the systematic review of the relationship between coastal management strategies and coastal infrastructure typologies provides an opportunity to benchmark local coastal adaptation policies against contemporary global prac...
Globally, coastal managers are challenged to make informed decisions when selecting coastal infrastructure to respond to climate-induced sea-level rise and associated coastal hazards like coastal erosion and flooding. Classifying the types of coastal infrastructure permits the comparison of their potential efficiency, environmental and socioeconomi...
Background:
Optimal nutrition during the first two years of a child's life is critical for the reduction of morbidity and mortality. In Ghana, majority of children miss out on optimal nutrition and only few (13%) of children receive a Minimum Acceptable Diet (MAD). Several studies have investigated the influence of community-level factors on infan...
Estuaries are among the world’s most biologically productive ecosystems and have since generations attracted migrants due to their high biodiversity, natural beauty, and source of livelihood. Growing coastal populations and immigration have led to the deterioration of many coastal ecosystems globally. Overfishing, habitat fragmentation, and degrada...
Certain communities along the coast of Ketu South Municipality in south-eastern Ghana, remain vulnerable to coastal flood events from storm surges, high tidal waves, lagoon overflow, and heavy rainfall. However, the local conditions that make these communities vulnerable are poorly understood and knowledge on which communities are most vulnerable i...
Background
Education on exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) practices is usually given in the form of health talks by health workers (HWs). The need for HWs to be well-informed about cultural practices and misconceptions that act as barriers to EBF has been documented in literature. This information can guide HWs in developing interventions such as healt...
In the debate over refugee–host community environmental conflicts, refugees are often blamed, premised on the notion that refugees add substantially to anthropogenic activities as a result of both their demographic and socio-economic status. We employ political ecology to understand how power and economic considerations play out in the access to an...
The need for durable solutions to protracted refugee situations is shifting stakeholders’ attention to the strengths of local integration in first asylum countries despite the complexities involved. In the absence of workable voluntary repatriation and third country resettlement options, refugees already in first asylum destinations, can have their...
Summary A growing body of research suggests that orphanhood and fostering might be (independently) associated with educational disadvantage in sub-Saharan Africa. However, literature on the impacts of orphanhood and fostering on school enrolment, attendance and progress produces equivocal, and often conflicting, results. This paper reports on quant...
This paper examines the gendered implications of Africa's transport gap (the lack of cheap, regular and reliable transport) for young people in rural Ghana, with particular reference to the linkages between restricted mobility, household work demands, access to education and livelihood potential. Our aim is to show how mobility constraints, especia...
In the face of protracted refugee situations worldwide, peaceful co-existence with host populations is necessary to ensure a meaningful life for refugees. Refugees need assistance to survive, especially in the emergency phase of their arrival in host communities. However, establishing refugee camps in predominantly rural communities with poor livin...
