Detailed sedimentary study of a section of the Syrian coast (Umm al-Tuyour, Latakia) was carried out in order to determine the grain size analysis and characterization of sedimentary environment. Twenty-two samples of surface sediments were collected along the coastal area during the summer period of 2022. This research used an integrated methodolo...
Grain size, sorting, skewness, and kurtosis studies are of great importance in
order to texturally characterize the sedimentary environments. These parameters are
useful in characterizing the dynamic beach environment, which is of potential interest
for research in natural resources and in the interpretation of marine sediment pollution.

This research focuses on identifying the concentration of some heavy metal
elements (Lead (Pb) cadmium (Cd)) in different types of marine sediments
dispersed along Tratous coastal area using the Atomic Absorption (Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometer: AAS). The samples were collected from regions differ from each
other in terms of geographical...
Detailed textural study of Alsanaouber area in the Syrian coast (35 ° 27` 50 "and 35 ° 27` 56": 35 ° 51` 56 "and 35 ° 51` 48") has been carried out to determine the sedimented nature, distribution, and transportation mode. The sediments are mainly coarse to fine sand, moderately sorted, very negatively skewed, and mesokurtic. The interrelationship...
This research studied the distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in marine sediment. Samples were collected seasonally from several sites of Banias coast between April 2015 and January 2016. The total concentration of PAHs in the studied sediments ranged from 763 to 5884 ng/gdw. The highest concentrations were recorded in summer an...
The study area is located at the north- west of Al Kaber river estuary. This area has been studied to determine the grain size spectrum and textural parameters (mean, sorting, skewness and kurtosis). Four sediment types were identified. These are (Sandy Gravel; Gravelly Sand; Slightly Gravelly Sand; Sand) reflecting the difference between the regio...
The study deals with the characteristics of the particle distribution of marine sediment and the distribution rates of organic matter in the Syrian coast and continental shelf, through the establishment of the cumulative curve and a number of statistical transactions, and correlation coefficients, In addition to studying the percentage of organic m...

The study of textural characteristics of marine sediments is very important to understand the evolution and distribution of coastal deposits, the hydrodynamic conditions of the depositional environments, and seasonal changes along the coasts, by collecting samples during seasonal periods. Due to the lake of sach studies in our coast, aset of 14 sam...

ABSTRACT
This research focuses on identifying the concentration of some heavy metal elements (Lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd)), in different types of marine sediments dispersed along Latakia and Banias coastal area during spring period of 2015 using the Atomic Absorption (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer: AAS)....
Abstract
This study describes the changes in the concentrations of chlorophyll a and hydrocarbon contaminants in the port of Latakia during the period from February 2011 to December in the same year.
The chlorophyll a concentrations are proportional with the concentrations of aliphatic pollutants at the stations near the beach which exposed conti...

Detailed textural study of the Northern section of the Syrian Continental shelf (N35.92991 E35.91785: N35.35752 E35.91542) has been carried out in order to determine the sediment nature and distribution. The sediments are mainly coarse to very fine-grained particles, moderately sorted, negatively skewed to fine skewed and leptokurtic to mesokurtic...

Few studies describe and compare the transport mechanisms operating to disperse mud in different parts of basins. Instead, the physical processes operating to disperse mud in offshore environments, where storm and tidal processes are interpreted to dominate, are generally considered in isolation from those occurring in basinal settings where change...
n this study the Cleveland Ironstone and Whitby Mudstone Formations have beeninvestigated to characterise: a) the evolving mudstone facies present in a basin that isgradually deepening and developing bottom water anoxia over time and b) what thefundamental geological controls were on this variability. Using detailed facies descriptions obtained fro...
Mud and mudstones are the most abundant (>60%) sediment and sedimentary rock type preserved at and close to the surface of the Earth. They have formed commonly throughout the Phanerozoic and are found in many environments including present-day soils, lake basins, continental shelves, and ocean basins. Mudstones deposited in ancient shelf seas are p...

Outcome
Plastic management improved in the Asia and Pacific region through the establishment of downstream baseline surveys, and the status and trends of marine plastic pollution impacts
This research "Bio-Geomorphological Survey of Specific Locations of Syrian Continental Shelf, and Bottom Nature" was carried out during the period 27/9/2011 – 27/1/2015, at the High Institute of Marine Research- Tishreen University, under the financial support offered by the Higher Commission for Scientific Research-Syria. It has dealt with the existing situations of the continental shelf from AlSamra in the north till the Lebanese border in the south, where 4 zones (0-20m, 20-50m, 50-100m and 100-200m water depths) were studied for length, width, depth, slope, sea bed type, and presence of underwater heights & depressions.
