Traffic congestion in urban areas poses several challenges to municipal authorities including pollution, productivity loss, reckless driving, and delays in dealing with emergencies. Smart cities can use modern IoT infrastructure to solve the congestion problem and reduce pollution and delays. In this article, we focus on congestion mapping and miti...
Traffic management is one of the major factors in growth strategy formulation in urban centers across the globe. The increasing population and, therefore, the increase in the number of vehicles on roads in urban centers cause congested traffic patterns. These patterns typically emerge on intersections in busy city roads at various times during the...
In this paper, we discuss rescue planning for disaster victims trapped in a partially collapsed multistory building. Before the rescue teams enter the building, the number and approximate locations of victims should be determined leading to efficient planning of the search and rescue paths for saving more lives. Technology has affected the development of the education process over time. COVID-19 pandemic has forced educational facilities to close. Consequently, transformation from face-to-face educational approach to the E-learning approach has pushed the world to enter a new state of learning. This situation has elicited doubts about the implementation an...
Deaf people face many challenges to communicate with the hearing world. Many studies and industrial solutions came up with interpretation from sign language to normal text but most of them are limited either to static images for letters or static animated character plays the word in motion. Therefore, this research worked on enhancing the feasible...
As of December 2019, the world’s view on life has
been changed due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This requires the use of all kinds of technology to help identify coronavirus patients and control the spread of this disease. In this paper, an online questionnaire was developed as a tool to collect data. This data was used as an input for various pre...
No matter how sophisticated an organization's security system is, it remains vulnerable due to the human factor. In this study, we surveyed and analyzed the patterns practiced by users when generating passwords at a small-sized university. We found that users are not as aware of security requirements and practices as they think. Moreover, the vast...
Smart cities are benefiting from Internet of Things (IoT) in optimizing their services. Smart waste management systems can provide substantial savings in time, monetary cost, trip length and utilization of vehicles. In this paper, we use the IoT technology to determine the schedule and pathways of waste collection trucks. We discuss our previous wo...

Ras Al Khaimah (Rak) is the northernmost emirate of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The emirate has witnessed a phenomenal economic and demographic growth. Taking a progressive stance on sustainability, the emirate has undertaken a sustainability strategy that aims at increasing its recycling rate from the current level of about 15 to 75% by 2021....
We describe the design and implementation of a system to automate patient handling and assignment to hospitals in mass disasters involving a large number of injured victims over a wireless network. In addition, the previously developed MEDTOC system is modified and enhanced to include location-aware features at the disaster site, as well as quick c...
No matter how sophisticated and advanced an organization's security system is, it remains vulnerable due to the human factor. In this paper, we conducted a survey to analyze the patterns used by the faculty, staff, and students when generating passwords at a small sized university. We found that users are not as aware of security requirements and p...
In this paper, the design and working of a patient load balancing system is described to enhance the automated patient handling in mass disasters involving scores of injured victims. The MEDTOC system developed earlier is augmented to handle the larger size of disasters resulting from mass casualty events. This load balancing system can be deployed...
Wi-Fi Direct is considered as the way to connect people by offering a wider connectivity to the authorized devices. This paper presents a prototype that connects more than two displays wirelessly to create a VGA host by integrating the Miracast Application Program Interface (API) with Wi-Fi direct technology. This achievement supports high-quality...
We consider applicability of the e-learning at Hashemite University (HU) from different perspectives based on the academic major of students. The e-learning concept had professionally been applied on some majors offered at the HU and gained a great impact on the learning process, students and staff. The HU has made an excellent progress toward prac...
This chapter presents the proposed model of combination between Photovoltaic solar system resources and sound biometric techniques, to generate power energy from the sunlight using the PVS controlled by a sound biometric technique. This work contributes to research knowledge by proposing and validating a sound biometric technique for allowing to re...
This paper presents a novel kit application of a Bluetooth technology so-called 'Fever Watcher-kit' (FW-kit). FW-kit facilitates monitoring and tracking the children's temperature in a safe way as needed. The FW-kit consists of two parts: temperature device and mobile application. The temperature device measures the temperature at the surface of th...
A new model is required for wireless Bluetooth technology that enhances media streaming between different devices.
