Peak-time rebates offer an opportunity to introduce demand response in electricity markets. To implement peak-time rebates, utilities must accurately determine the consumption level if the program were not in effect. Reliable calculations of customer baseline load elude utilities and independent system operators, due to factors that include heterog...
During the past years, hybrid solar-wind power systems containing photovoltaic (PV) and wind generators are used to minimize the intermittency problem of renewable power generation units. The improved modeling and control schemes for a grid-tied hybrid PV–wind system is presented in the current research work. The maximum power point tracking namely...
High solar Photovoltaic (PV) penetration on distribution systems can cause over-voltage problems. To this end, an Optimal Tap Control (OTC) method is proposed to regulate On-Load Tap Changers (OLTCs) by minimizing the maximum deviation of the voltage profile from 1 p.u. on the entire feeder. A secondary objective is to reduce the number of tap oper...
High penetration of wind energy requires fast-acting dispatchable resources to manage energy imbalance in the power grid. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are considered an essential tool to decrease power and energy imbalance between the scheduled generation (day ahead forecast) and the actual wind farm output. Control methodology or battery...
FERC Order 745 allows demand response owners to sell their load reduction in the wholesale market. It is a very basic question. My knowledge in power electronics is very limited, and it might look like very basic to many of you. I am trying to use an inverter to control voltage. I want to know if the inverter is able to control voltage of different buses separately? I mean voltages on different phases might be different for many reasons, does the inverter provide different firing angles for different phases?
I appreciate those of you who are expert in power electronics to help me with this question. If you think the question is fuzzy, tell me what other details I must provide to make it clearer.
Finding an accurate CBL estimation method for residential customers became an interesting topic in recent years. One of the promising approaches suggested in literature is clustering the customers in order to eliminate their randomness and gaming incentives. If you know any clustering methods that can be helpful in this endeavor, please recommend it in this thread, and explain why do you think the proposed clustering method can address the volatility of residential customers?
Hello fellow researchers,
Two years ago, I developed an economic model for price-based demand response programs, and published it in a journal paper in EPSR (from Elsevier). The paper is entitled "A novel economic model for price-based demand response", which you can find it either here in my Researchgate account or in Elsevier sciencedirect library.
This model can explain the change and the cross-period shift in consumption pattern of individual consumers in response to the price signal, and I believe it is a very powerful model. However, there are some alternative well-established DR models that became mainstream, and I believe my model is capable to compete with these models both in simplicity and in the power of prediction.
For following reasons, I want to share my Matlab code. First, I shifted my research to a different field and I am not going to use those codes anytime soon. Second, I want to promote my model, and finally I want to save some troubles for the future researchers in the field of demand response who need a model for DR program. Therefore, if anyone is interested, he/she can either contact me here in Researchgate, or email his/her request to my personal email smohajer [at] uncc [dot] edu.
Incidentally, if you have any question about the model, don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Saeed
In my research, I encountered a question that I do not know its answer. The answer might be simple, but since renewable energies' technologies is not my field, I got confused. I googled it, but I could not find an answer convincing me that I found the right answer.
My question is how a wind farm/solar power plant does manage the extra generation? assuming a scenario that the generation can not be sold to the customers, or consumed in any other ways.
In conventional power plants, the answer is very straightforward, put the stopper on the fuel chamber to decrease the generation. How do renewable energies reduce their generation? Which control strategies/technologies are used for this purpose? specially wind farms/solar power plants.
Best regards,
Saeed
I want to conduct a study about the forecasting characteristics of the industrial customers. Also, I want to compare them with the residential customers. Unfortunately unlike my primary expectation, unlike the residential customers, I found no information on hourly electricity consumption of such customers. I appreciate if anyone share such data with me, or if you have an information about where I can find data, direct me to the right place.
It is worth mentioning that there are abundance of data in the aggregated level, but not in the individual level. I need the granular data of several industrial customers for at least a month. The industrial segment of the customer is not important.
Thanks for your time, and I look forward hearing your responses.
