Introduction
My research examines (systematic) gaze strategies in remote nautical object (bridge/lock) control. Operators are expected to systematically and comprehensively scan CCTV streams to minimise the risk of observer errors, yet the effectiveness of this approach has not been empirically validated. My research therefore assesses the effectiveness and applicability of systematic viewing to improve training, work processes, and inform the development of alternative gaze instructions or support systems.

Research was conducted to determine if alterations in the acoustical characteristics of voice occur after moderate cumulative sleep deprivation. Eight subjects participated in the study. Sleep deprivation was obtained by prescribing four nights of reduced sleep (6 hrs instead of 8). Speech data were obtained with sociometric badges, cognitive and s...
Errors in bridge/lock operations can have fatal consequences, which means adequate situation awareness (SA) is crucial during operators’ inspection process. Although operators from Rijkswaterstaat are well-trained and use carefully designed systems, accident reports revealed that SA is not always sufficient. Rijkswaterstaat considers smart cameras...
This paper reports a qualitative exploration of gaze strategies during closed-circuit television (CCTV) tasks in remote nautical object control of a lock. Previous research has not examined gaze strategies in scenarios where systems, such as nautical objects, are operated remotely using CCTV. As contextual factors matter in nautical object control,...
