The use of composite concrete filled hollow columns has increased in the last decades. This type of column has several advantages, such as the exemption of the use of forms, a higher load bearing capacity and the prospect use of smaller cross sections. Although it has a good behaviour in fire situation, the use of slender columns, mainly in tall bu...

External walls are part of the construction system where new solutions appear every day. These systems are usually built with new materials that offer greater thermal resistance but with poor fire behaviour. This fire behaviour can be evaluated in large-scale tests, such as the ones prescribed at BS 8414-1, LEPIR II or ISO-13785-1 standards, that c...

The behaviour of building external wall systems in fire is very important on the assessing the building’s resilience. Large-scale fire tests, simulating urban fire scenarios, wherein a fire initiates inside a building and extends outward through the windows or vents are usually carried out with this purpose. However, the influence of external fires...

Nest...
Conference Paper
This paper presents a numerical model for analyzing the fire behavior of composite steel and concrete end-plate joints after earthquake. The model was developed and validated with experimental results. The obtained moment-rotation results showed that cyclic loading damage affects the performance of the joint in case of fire.

In Portugal, forest fuel management (FFM) around buildings is mandatory and regulated by Decree-Law. However, regarding the Portuguese Building Fire Safety Regulation, there are no specific provisions for applying safety measures to mitigate forest fire effects on buildings in the wildland-urban interface (WUI). Therefore, for evaluating the influe...
