The present study aimed to test an alternative method of rating potential habitats, based on the analysis of satellite images provided by the Google Earth platform. Thus, two sectors of the Jiu and Siret rivers, with a length of 272.2, respectively 168.3 km, were evaluated using both methods (the classical one and the one based on satellite images)...
Manuscript type: Commentary Letting wildlife, local communities, and conservation research breathe: contributing to a down to earth policy-making process in conservation within the EU Abstract Preserving species, in prey-predator, forager-food-supply, and, healthy soils, clean water and air form is very important. A holistic EU-wide Directive is ne...
The current debates around the way environmental decision-making process takes place in Romania clearly necessitate a more attentive regard. There are critiques everywhere in the press from problems of deforestation to endangered species. The scientific quality of these critiques is rarely questioned. The present paper therefore proposes an alterna...
In its essence geostatistics adds georeferenced spatial information to the vector of recorded variables of each individual observation, which represents a spatial location. It further adds into models the space dependent random error. In this document I state that the classical multivariate techniques like multiple regression analysis or multidimen...
The aim of the present paper is to investigate how the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) can be used in Scala, for performing the main geospatial analysis tasks: manipulating vector and raster data (geoprocessing) and geospatial data analysis.
Statistical computing in ecology evolves at a high speed, mainly because researchers have recognized the advantage of being able to design their algorithms according to their needs. The present paper introduces the implementation in Scala language of the k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN) classifier, which can be applied also on small datasets, a situation...
The present paper documents the implementation in Scala of the k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN) classifier based on Euclidean distances. It represents the first part of a statistical package called scalaML used for classification, which will include in the future also topics like decision trees and logistic regression.
The main aim of this work is to serve as documentation for the scalaML package developed by me at INCDS.

Abstract
Torrent control protection works safeguard infrastructure and human settlements against torrential hazards. Their social-economic value is therefore high. Investigating the relation between the structural state of protection works for torrent control and the specific characteristics of the torrent catchment is of great importance. The pre...

Though the potassium (K) status of the soil often relies only on its exchangeable-K content, release from nonexchangeable K also contributes to plant nutrition. This process, as well as the opposite one, K fixation, are diffusion controlled and thus depend on time. This study was conducted to (i) assess the influence of time (2 h, 1 d, and 8 d) on...
