The diverse bee genus Psaenythia Gerstaecker (Panurginae, Protandrenini), hitherto known from central and southern South America, is recorded from northern South America for the first time. Two new species are described: Psaenythia diceratops , sp. n., from northeastern Colombia, and P . guaricoensis , sp. n., from central Venezuela. The males of P...

Plants and pollinators might respond differently to changes in climate, and thus plant-pollinator relationships are vulnerable to spatial, temporal, morphological and recognition mismatches. Although the effects of climate change on pollinators and pollination services are expected to be greater in the tropics than in other latitudes, these effects...

Mutualistic interactions between bees and flowering plants have been widely recognized as one of the most important for the maintenance of these communities throughout ecosystems. Consequently, understanding how these interactions occur is highly important, especially in seasonal dry tropical forest (SDTF), one of the most endangered ecosystems in...

Stingless bees (Apidae: Meliponini) are culturally and economically important bees and they represent a major component of the Colombian melittofauna. However, the bee fauna of Colombia is still in early stages of exploration and species identification is often difficult or impossible. We revised the species of the cleptobiotic stingless bee genus...

Stingless bees (Apinae: Corbiculata: Meliponini) are biologically and culturally important pollinators within the tropical and subtropical areas of the world. However, limited information is available for the majority of the species. Biological and systematic data are presented for a new species of Trigonisca Moure, from the arid region of La Guaji...

Genital characters remain unexplored in Euglossa and they could be of great value in recognizing species and understanding the phylogeny of the group as in other bee genera. We examined the external morphology of the male gonostylus in 49 species of Euglossa belonging to five subgenera and eight species groups. Unlike the other euglossine genera, t...

Establish possible scenarios of chemical contamination by heavy metals, pesticides and micro plastics, in native and non-native bees and their apiarian products in urban and rural environments.
Project
Through melissopalynological analysis, we determine the botanical origin of bee products (honey and pollen) and evaluate the dynamics on bee-plant interactions in different regions of Colombia. At the same time, we seek to improve the palynological collection of the Laboratorio de Investigaciones en Abejas LABUN - Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and to publish pollen catalogs that may serve as reference for further melissopalynological research.
Project
As part of the Labun efforts to work with some of passion flowers and their related bee fauna, the main purpose of this work was to stablish a floral cycle and the main visitors of banana passion fruit in a cultivated area.
