Introduction
Ph.D. in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. I work with the morphological and molecular taxonomy of Annelida, with an emphasis on the Syllidae family, community ecology, and environmental impacts with an emphasis on coastal marine regions. Experience in data analysis focused on using the R language to analyze biodiversity data. I am currently interested in community ecology, marine macroecology, and distribution patterns of marine biodiversity.

Because of growing inequalities, more than one-third of the worldwide population is expected to live in slums by 2050. Although slum dwellers are at increased risk of infectious diseases, this population may have been overlooked with respect to the sustainability of virus evolution. In this study, we aimed to analyze the genetic diversity and evolu...
Sandy beaches are important socio-ecological systems for human well-being and coastal stability. They are also economic and cultural assets; however, urbanization and human activities threaten their ecosystem services and biodiversity. Thus, it is important to discuss strategies for ecosystem conservation. The main objective of this study was to ev...
The symbiotic relationship between the syllid polychaete, Haplosyllides floridana Augener, 1922, and the barrel-shaped sponge Xestospongia muta (Schmidt, 1870), originally documented solely in the Caribbean, is presumed to be species-specific. Recently, the host sponge has been found as a single species distributed across approximately 8000 km (fro...
This article shows a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature on polychaetes from Brazil, with a focus on the growth of the field, publication venues, citation patterns, the collaboration among the Brazilian community and foreign researchers, and the main research topics over time. The analysis was based on a corpus of 568 articles pub...
Oceanic islands harbor a unique and distinct fauna and flora, usually isolated by distance and the deep sea, making them fascinating environments to study. Despite their importance, taxonomic accounts from Brazilian oceanic islands have only recently begun to focus on important groups such as the Syllidae family. In this article, we present detaile...
Local Ecological Knowledge and social perceptions of human communities that depend on natural resources can provide important baseline information on local threats and impacts at a fine scale for conservation management. Seahorses play important economic role in Brazilian mangroves, being sought-after for seahorse-watching tours. This touristic act...
Oceanic islands present very interesting environments, known by possessing relatively distinct fauna and flora. However, taxonomic accounts from Brazilian oceanic islands focused on important groups, such as the family Syllidae, began to be published only in recent years. In this paper we provide descriptions and illustrations of two new species, B...
The Fundão dam failure, the worst environmental disaster in Brazilian history, launched 50 million m³ of iron ore tailings mud through the Doce River, reaching the Atlantic Ocean. Generally, mine tailings increase the sediment inflow, leading to mud burial of epibenthic macrofauna, and the raise of metal(oid)s concentration causing macrofauna long-...
The increased demand for food for human consumption has led to an exponential growth of aquaculture in the marine environment. This growth has raised concerns about environmental health, as fish farming can cause organic enrichment and eutrophication in sediments and, consequently, alter the benthic biota. This study evaluated changes in the struct...

We compiled the records for the genus Salvatoria from Brazilian coastal and oceanic habitats, collected by several projects along the years. Here we present 12 species, eight of which already reported–S. breviarticulata comb. nov., S. clavata, S. euritmica, S. heterocirra, S. limbata, S. longiarticulata comb. nov., S. neapolitana and S. cf. nitidul...
Valuable efforts have been made to describe the diversity of Syllidae Grube, 1850 in Brazilian waters, but only recently, taxonomic accounts of the family from oceanic islands began to be published. Here we reported five species of Exogone Ørsted, 1845 from Rocas Atoll, Fernando de Noronha and Trindade Islands. Exogone rocas sp. nov. is described a...
Here we describe two new species in the genus Branchiosyllis Ehlers, 1887 associated with sponges. Branchiosyllis belchiori sp. nov. was found in Todos os Santos Bay, state of Bahia, and in the Fernando de Noronha Island (Northeastern Brazil), and Branchiosyllis gonzaguinhai sp. nov. was found in the Fernando de Noronha Island and Rocas Atoll. We c...
Spatial and temporal distribution of two species of adult´s ostracods (Cyprideis sp. and Cyprideis salebrosa) were studied as a function of the rainfall patterns in the Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Samples were taken in ten stations, along six surveys representing three periods (Dry, Early and Late Rainy) for two years. Stations were nest...
Introdution Up to now, 172 species of Syllidae have been recorded in Brazilian waters, mostly from coastal regions and some from the continental slope and the deep sea. However, only 7 species are known from Brazilian oceanic islands: Rocas Atoll, Fernando de Noronha and Trindade Islands (Fig. 1a), at least 545 km away of the coast but still part o...
The Oyster farming has attracted attention in the Northeastern region of Brazil. This activity is considered to cause less damages to the environment compared to other cultures, once oysters are filter feeders, however there is a lack of knowledge related to its environmental impacts. It is important to investigate such impacts in order to permit t...
Annulobalcis aurisflamma is a parasitic mollusc of the crinoid Tropiometra carinata. It was originally described from São Paulo (south-eastern Brazil) and recently recorded from Bahia (north-eastern Brazil). In the present study, we report the presence of Annulobalcis aurisflamma on the coast of Alagoas (north-eastern Brazil), extending its known d...
