The size and compositions of chylomicrons balanced by the porosity of the Liver Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells regulates the hepatic synthesis of cholesterol with that from the diet. Not only enviromental factors ( smoking, alcoholism, exercise ) but species and genes may alter LSEC porosity, so important in atherogenesis. LSEC also has a role in liver disease such as cirrhosis, therapy for familial diseases (size of vectors for genes or siRNA ), immunity and probably septic shock.
