The research activities of my laboratory are focussed on two major areas:
1) comprehension of host-pathogen interactions, with special emphasis on the role of the MHC class II transactivator (CIITA), discovered by us in 1985-1986, as restriction factor for human retroviruses;
2) new strategies of anti-tumor vaccination and tumor therapy based on the optimal activation of CD4+ T helper cells; in this direction attempts are made to render tumor cells surrogate APCs for their own tumor antigens.
