Regulatory Fitness and Performance programme (REFIT) is a programme to keep the entire stock of EU legislation under review and ensure that laws are still "fit for purpose". Nowadays, the legislation on pesticides covering the pesticide authorisation, active substance approval and maximum residue levels setting is under scrutiny by REFIT programme....
Approval of active substances and authorization of plant protection products in the European Union (EU) is made based on a strict risk assessment of the agronomic use of the plant protection products. Regulation 1107/2009 regulates the procedure in the EU with complex procedures involving many actors. “The Farm to Fork strategy” and “The Biodiversi...

In this study, a biofilter reactor was successfully applied to remove hexane (a volatile organic compound) from contaminated air streams. Since hexane is very poorly water soluble and hardly metabolized by most bacteria, because of its short hydrocarbon chain, a gas-phase bioreactor inoculated by Aspergillus niger was adopted. In fact, filamentous...
The effects of electron beam irradiation on solutions of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA), the major contributor to sensory defects
in cork stoppers, were studied at different doses (25 and 50 kGy) by qualitative and quantitative analysis of its breakdown
products. The behaviour of irradiated TCA was also evaluated in the presence of cork. Analyses wer...
The effects of electron beam irradiation on cork volatile compounds was studied at different doses (25, 100, 1000 kGy). Volatiles
were isolated from cork using the dynamic headspace-sampling technique, then identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
(GC-MS). Similar gas chromatographic profiles were obtained for non-irradiated and irradiate...
