This work aims to contribute modeling of fire scenarios that occur on ships and water spray suppression systems that meet the requirements of IMO standards. In order to evaluate the conditions of various fire scenarios, computational simulation tools zone and field fluid dynamics (CFD) will be used. These tools allow more economical and flexible studies than full-scale experimentation and therefore allow evaluating several solutions and scenarios with lower cost and time. Models include enclosure physical configuration, ventilation conditions and smoke evacuation, material thermal properties in order to establish boundary conditions, type and amount of fuel set by the IMO standard tests and water concentrations as fire suppression agent. Model simulation outputs will be: temperature, pressure, velocity, heat flow, mass loss rate and species composition versus time. Data obtained will be compared with real tests according IMO standards carried out by certified laboratories. Finally, technical and economic aspects of alternative suppression systems will be compared to determine feasible solutions.
