Purpose To compare three Photobiomodulation protocols to prevent/treat oral mucositis associated to radiotherapy. Methods Seventy-three patients with cancer in oral cavity, oropharynx, and nasopharynx, who underwent RT with dose in facial fields equal or higher than 6000 cGy were randomized into three groups (mean RT dose = 66 cGy ±4.9). Protocols...

Oral mucositis (OM) is a painful condition caused by chemotherapeutic or radiotherapeutic cancer treatments, occurring in patients with different tumour characteristics and locations. OM greatly impacts a patient’s quality of life and cancer recovery. Current OM management strategies are not providing sufficient prevention and treatment; new approa...

Definition Oral mucositis (OM) is a pathological condition with several oral manifestations, originate from cytotoxic effects of non-surgical cancer therapies. The clinical manifestation ranges from diffuse erythematous areas to necrotic ulcers lesions in the mucosa. The oral mucosa presents confluent, deep, and devastatingly painful ulcerations in...
Article
Background Oral cancer is the most common subset of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). These tumors often have an aggressive clinical outcome hallmarked by a propensity for local invasion and regional nodal metastasis. Upregulated genes could be useful as markers for diagnosis, prognosis, and as new drug targets for these tumors. Metho...

This study investigates the benefits of green‐lipped mussels containing bioavailable PUFAs and inflammation‐modulating oil extracts. The goal is to find the best method for extracting lipids from two types of raw materials with strong immunomodulatory, anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant properties using organic solvents and supercritical carbon diox...

Studies have shown that the treatment incidence of onset cancers significantly rose worldwide after the 90s decade. Multidisciplinary cancer care teams are challenged to keep a survivor's group's physical and psychological well-being that presents a long-life perspective. In this way, there is a rise in the search for integrative medicine as comple...

The immune system plays a crucial role in defending the body against foreign invaders, and the balance of various polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), can impact immune cell functions and overall immune responses. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of...

Chondrocyte behavior is critical in osteoarthritis (OA) progression and cartilage deterioration. Recent studies have shown that green-lipped mussel (GLM) oil extracts obtained through solvent extraction can regulate cytokine secretion in cell lines, potentially reducing inflammation and immune cell activation. This study investigates the effects of...

Background Aberrant methylation is a frequent event in oral cancer. Methods In order to better characterize these alterations, a search for genes downregulated by aberrant methylation in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) was conducted through the mining of ORESTES dataset. Findings were further validated in OSCC cell lines and patients’ samples a...

Claudins are a family of transmembrane proteins that compose the tight junctions, playing an essential role in cell-to-cell adhesion, maintenance of cell polarity and recruiting signaling proteins. The expression of these proteins has been found to be altered in several human cancers, suggesting that this family of proteins might represent potentia...
Article
Claudins, a large family of essential tight junction (TJ) proteins, are abnormally regulated in human carcinomas, especially claudin-7. The aim of this study was to investigate claudin-7 expression and alterations in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Expression of claudin-7 was analysed in 132 cases of OSCC organized in a tissue microarray. Clau...

Squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity (OSCC) is a malignancy characterized by a high degree of local aggression and metastasis to cervical lymph nodes. Tetraspanins are proteins with functional roles in a wide array of cellular processes and are reported to be associated with tumor progression. The present study investigated the expression of...

Question
I am trying to stimulate the CHON-001 cell line with IL1b to analyse the cytokine's expression. I've tried 24 and 72hrs of incubation, however, the amount of TNF-a was very low. I was using 24 well plates, and waiting until the cells present 80% of confluence. Is there someone who could suggest another procedure?
Question
I need to test the stimulation production of TNF alpha in the RAW cell line by LPS. I am looking for an easy and cheap experiment to quantify the serial dilution stimulation in this macrophage cell line.
