The removal of disinfection by-products from water is of critical importance to achieve the water purification. Nnitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), an emerging nitrogenous disinfection by-product produced by the chlorineammonia disinfection, remains significantly hazardous even at low concentrations. Herein, an activated carbon (AC)-supported nanoscal...
Nearly 3 billion people around the world use biomass fuels for cooking, water heating, and space heating purposes. Indoor air pollution and emission from biomass cookstove remain an issue for a long time. Clean burning and high fuel efficiency are two focal areas to consider when designing improved biomass cookstoves. A forced draft wood gasifier w...
As a technology-intensive sector, modern agriculture is becoming more and more dependent on the ongoing development of new technological inputs, which serve as both its foundation and its engine. These new technologies include biotechnology, information technology, cultivation technology, water-saving irrigation technology, etc. The application of...
Atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) can provide clean and safe drinking water in remote areas. The present study provides a comprehensive review of adsorption-based AWH by using the scientometric approach. The publication types are mainly composed of articles and reviews, accounting for 75.37% and 11.19% of the total, respectively. Among these publi...
The utilization of biomass for cooking and heating is old, occurring from the early stages of human evolution because of its wide and easy availability. In Asia, a majority of the population is dependent on solid biomass for cooking and heating applications. Biomass cookstove produces emissions like carbon monoxide (CO), and particulate matter with...
Physico-chemical characteristics of kitchen food waste (KFW) and rice straw (RS) were explored to determine the optimum feedstock ratio for biohydrogen production. An in-depth investigation on the thermogravimetric degradation was conducted at heating rates of 10, 20, and 30 ℃/min. Friedman, Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose, and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa iso-conver...
The extensive use of traditional cooking stoves to meet daily cooking and heating requirements has highlighted the serious problem of indoor and outdoor air pollution. This study evaluates seven improved coal-fired space-heating and cooking stoves and compares them with a widely used stove of an older design, selected as a baseline reference. The s...
Sensitivity analysis is useful to downgrade/upgrade the number of inputs to limit greenhouse emissions and enhance crop yield. The primary data from the 300 rice (grain crop) and 300 cotton (cash crop) farmers were gathered in face-to-face interviews by applying a multistage random sampling technique using a well-structured pretested questionnaire....
Manual stripping of coconut fiber has low processing efficiency coupled with difficulty in operation. To overcome these problems, a coconut fiber bionic‐stripping device based on Lucanidae palate frictional characteristics was designed. The device relied on the torsion spring edge hook and brush working principle to strip the coconut fiber. The coc...
The concept of agricultural and environmental sustainability refers to minimizing the degradation of natural resources while increasing crop productions; assessment of inflow and outflow energy resources is helpful in highlighting the resilience of the system and maintaining its productivity. In this regard, the current study evaluated the amount o...
The extensive use of traditional cooking stoves to meet daily cooking and heating requirements has highlighted the serious problem of indoor and outdoor air pollution. This study evaluates three improved cooking and heating stoves (ICHSs) and compared them with a traditional stove as a baseline reference. The stoves’ performance regarding emission...
Fuel moisture content (FMC) has an essential impact on the performance of biomass combustion. FMC typically changes during the burning process; therefore, considering only the initial FMC is inadequate for understanding clean combustion and emission control. An on-line FMC monitoring method was employed by measuring relative humidity of emissions t...
Groundwater is a major source of freshwater for agricultural and domestic purposes. For conservation of freshwater resources, the identification and management of groundwater quality is essential. Increased exploitation of groundwater and rapid urbanization is causing deterioration of groundwater quality. This study focused on the groundwater quali...
Many recent studies show that most of the crop production systems in developing countries are not environmentally sustainable. This study uses the life cycle assessment (LCA) to investigate the potential impacts of corn production in Pakistan on global warming and human health damages and also suggests mitigation strategies to reduce environmental...
Rice straw is an abundant biomass source that can be used to produce fuel gas and high quantity carbon. In this research, a continuous pilot microwave pyrolysis equipment was used to pyrolysize rice straw particles with different factors including microwave power, velocity of material flow, pressure, and holding time. The influence of those factors...
Previous researchers found that bulk coal combustion for heating was considered as one of the most important sources of air pollution, and the replacement of coal combustion resulted in significant air quality improvement, health benefits and the reduction of CO2 emission. The clean heating forms an essential part of the energy revolution, thereby...
In Pakistan, many subsurface (SS) drainage projects were launched by the Salinity Control and Reclamation Project (SCARP) to deal with twin problems (waterlogging and salinity). In some cases, sump pumps were installed for the disposal of SS effluent into surface drainage channels. Presently, sump pumps have become dysfunctional due to social and f...

Indoor air pollution and emission from biomass cookstoves remain an issue, since a long time. Clean burning and high fuel efficiency are two focus areas required when designing improved biomass cookstoves. A forced draft wood gasifier with a separate gas generator and gas burner was considered to overcome the pollution issues associated with bio-ma...
The major component of construction material - concrete is distinguished for its durability and strength against compressive loading. The strength development of concrete largely depends upon hydration rate, w/c ratio, shrinkage, and cracking potential. Curing is the prime factor accelerating and facilitating the rate of strength development of con...
In view of the low seeding efficiency and precision of seeders used for Brassica chinensis in China, a new double-row pneumatic precision metering device for Brassica chinensis was designed, fabricated, and evaluated. With the characteristics of small size and high sphericity of Brassica chinensis seeds in mind, the structure and key dimensions of...
The toxic emissions from coal combustion associated with domestic winter heating requirements are an important public health issue. Waste cooking oil (WCO) holds promise as a means of reducing pollutant emissions thereby improving human health with the co-benefit of decreasing climate-forcing gas emissions by avoiding the combustion of mineral coal...
Okra possesses a short shelf-life which limits its marketability, thereby, the present study investigates the individual and combined effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on the postharvest storage life of okra. The treated/ untreated okra samples were stored at ambient (i.e., 27 °C) and low (i.e., 7 °C) te...
In the 21st century, the poultry sector is a vital concern for the developing economies including Pakistan. The summer conditions of the city of Multan (Pakistan) are not comfortable for poultry birds. Conventionally, swamp coolers are used in the poultry sheds/houses of the city, which are not efficient enough, whereas compressor-based systems are...
Direct use of waste oil as fuel to meet the residential energy demands, is very attractive due to its potentials to decrease fossil fuel consumption, reduce pollution and increase sustainability. This paper uses a domestic stove with an internal heat re-circulation and self-atomization technology to burn yellow waste cooking oil (WCO-1), brown wast...
The extensive use and dependence on, traditional cooking stoves burning biomass fuels are prime cause of the perilous quality of indoor air. Conventional cooking stoves work at a low efficiency and emit harmful products of incomplete combustion which affect human health, primarily of women and children. Apart from usability, clean combustion of bio...
