Introduction
I'm working on the Down2Earth Project, which is funded by the EUHorizon2020 under H2020-EU.3.5. The project aims at translating climate information into multilevel decision support for policy development, social adaptation and resilience to water scarcity in the HAD. I'm involved in the data-driven assessment of drought risk to understand existing and possible future interactions between climate, hydrology, land and water use, and management focusing on drought risk and subsurface water storage

The cattle corridor in Uganda is known for its vulnerability to unpredictable rainfall patterns, recurring and severe droughts, all of which lead to water scarcity and crop failures. Therefore, to gain a deeper understanding of these drought characteristics, three districts were selected within the cattle corridor: Rakai in the South, Nakasongola i...

The Horn of Africa region has frequently been affected by severe droughts and food crises over the last several decades, and this will increase under projected global-warming and socio-economic pathways. Therefore, exploring novel methods of increasing early warning capabilities is of vital importance to reducing food-insecurity risk. In this study...

The relation between drought severity and drought impacts is complex and relatively unexplored in the African continent. This study assesses the relation between reported drought impacts, drought indices, water scarcity and aridity across several counties in Kenya. The monthly bulletins of the National Drought Management Authority in Kenya provided...

There have been numerous drought propagation studies in data-rich countries, but not much has been done for data-poor regions (such as the Horn of Africa, HOA). In this study, we characterize meteorological, soil moisture and hydrological drought and the propagation from one to the other for 318 catchments in the HOA to improve understanding of the...

The relation between drought severity, as expressed through widely used drought indices, and drought impacts is complex. In particular in water-limited regions where water scarcity is prevalent, the attribution of drought impacts is difficult. This study assesses the relation between reported drought impacts, drought indices, water scarcity, and ar...
