A project-based active/cooperative design course is planned, implemented, assessed and evaluated to achieve several desired engineering outcomes. The course allows freshman-level students to gain professional hands-on engineering design experience through an opportunity to practise teamwork, quality principles, communication skills, life-long learn...
An active/cooperative, introductory engineering design course is planned, implemented, assessed, and
evaluated using the project based learning approach to allow freshman level students to gain
professional hands-on engineering design experience. The course project exposes the students to
important contemporary issues, and excites their interest to...
The case study in the present work deals with a Non-Western, Non-English speaking institution
seeking accreditation for its 12 Engineering programs. The programs received substantial
equivalency accreditation under the conventional ABET criteria for 6 years in 2003. The
upcoming visit is expected during the academic year 2008/2009 based on EC2000....

A flow shop sequencing problem is one of the classical problems in the production scheduling. In a flow shop, a particular case of manufacturing process follows a fixed linear structure. The purpose of this paper is to find the minimum total processing time (makespan) of sequencing ‘n’ jobs on ‘m’ machines for a flow shop problem in a static worksh...
This software, which is based on MS Excel, presents new MCDM tools that rank alternatives based on median similarity (RAMS) between optimal alternatives and other alternatives. The software is also presents another MCDM tool that ranks the alternatives based on the Trace to Median Index (RATMI).
Quality standards must be fulfilled to satisfy a base level of quality. Despite using this idea as a foundation, evaluations of academic programs still rely on the evaluators' experiences and may differ from one evaluator to the next. As a result, more precise evaluation approaches must be created to ensure quality is accurately reflected. The main...
When a decision must be made, a tool called multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) is used to assess and select alternatives among numerous criteria. For a wide variety of complex problems, MCDM methods have demonstrated usefulness in finding the optimal solutions. Despite the abundance of MCDM methods available today, there has been slow progress i...
The present paper aims to demonstrate the combined impact of memory, selling price, and exhibited stock on a retailer’s decision to maximizing the profit. Exhibited stock endorses demand and low selling prices are also helpful for creating demand. The proposed mathematical model considers demand as a linear function of selling price and displayed i...
Education is an essential component for nations preparing to take advantage of the opportunities and confront the challenges of the 21st century. Universities, colleges, and research centers must work effectively and efficiently to achieve maximum results. In order to provide a comparable and verifiable evaluation of such institutions' efforts, adm...
Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) focuses on reaching the best possible results in complex scenarios with conflicting criteria. The goal of this paper is to evaluate and rank the 26 research centres’ outputs at a large public university using some MCDM techniques. While the current method of evaluating and ranking research centers in that unive...
Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) is concerned with achieving the best possible outcomes in
complex scenarios involving multiple indicators, conflicting objectives, and criteria. Numerous MCDM
types, including the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity
to Ideal Solutions (TOPSIS), the Best Worst Me...
The first step to the success of any construction project at Al-Quds University is to choose the right contractor to construct a project. Therefore, the university's engineering office must choose the contractors in a correct and practical method. Note that the process of selecting a contractor is a complex and not as simple as it may seem. As the...
When decision-makers’ judgments are uncertain, they often express their opinions using grey linguistic variables. Once used, the data often retains its grey nature throughout all subsequent decision-making iterations. Multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) is a tool used when making complicated decisions and in circumstances where several criteria re...
In the past decade, the use of multiple-criteria decision analysis technology has dramatically increased in solving complex real-world problems in solid waste management. Likewise, many municipalities have paid attention to finding feasible solutions for disposal and recycling of solid waste due to the increase in waste generation rates worldwide....
This paper proposes a nonlinear Goal Programming Model (GPM) for solving the problem of admission capacity planning in academic universities. Many factors of university admission capacity planning have been taken into consideration among which are number of admitted students in the past years, total population in the country, number of graduates fr...
The petrochemical industry plays a crucial role in the economy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Therefore, the effectiveness and efficiency of this industry is of high importance. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is found to be more acceptable in measuring the effectiveness of various
industries when used in conjunction with non-parametric methods su...
As a result of the recession in Saudi Arabia, the manufacturing companies start thinking to reduce the operational cost and increasing the productivity through lean manufacturing principles. This paper is focused on increasing the productivity of a paint manufacturing company through implementing some of the lean manufacturing techniques. First, Va...

This paper proposes a Hybrid Strategic Decision Support System (H-SDSS) for colleges' enrollment capacity planning. Three hybrid subsystems are combined for executing the task of decision making processes. The system includes students' track specified model, colleges' enrollment model and students' capacity forecast model. Data mining knowledge bas...
This paper proposes a linearized integer goal programming model (LIGPM) for solving the general problem of admission capacity planning at the national and/or institutional level and for a given long-term planning horizon. The model aims to satisfy the required key objectives of the Ministry of Education and/or 5-year national plan related to the hi...
This paper proposes a large-scale nonlinear integer goal programming model (LSNLIGPM) for solving
the general problem of admission capacity planning at the national and/or institutional level and
for a given long-term planning horizon. The model aims to satisfy the required key objectives of the
Ministry of Education (MEO) and/or 5-year national pl...
Higher education sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has observed great leaps during the
last National development plan (2011–2015) and the new one (2016–2020). The higher education
authority always tries to solve the question of conflicting aspects concerning the distribution
of preparatory-year students among faculties and departments while res...

The main aims of proposing the SDSS system is to:
1- Enhance the academic placement of KSA among the developed countries and bridging the advanced technological gap in the Kingdom.
2- Reduce the unemployment rate among Saudi youth and reducing the reliance on the foreign employment and enhancing the "Saudization".
3- Forecast the student admission capacity in each university colleges and estimating the various university needs
4- Distribute of the applicants to different universities according to their residential geographical area and creating a harmony between the academic specializations and the job market in different geographical areas.
5- Achieve a fair student satisfaction in the university admission process under the problem prevailing constraints.
Reviewing the various criteria used for contractors pre-qualification and bid evaluation as stated in the literature.
Identifying the criteria that are actually used to evaluate contractors’ pre-qualification and bids in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Preparing the questionnaire for contractors’ data collection
Analyzing the questionnaire and preparing the data for the developed approach
Developing fuzzy MCDM approach based on the data collected
Introducing the recommendations for enhancing the contractors’ selection and evaluation process in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
