Introduction
Currently working on comparing tree mortality patterns on uneven- and even-aged temperate forests using ground-based LiDAR. Looking at the relative influence of regeneration harvest severity on tree mortality compared to other factors such as localized competition, slope position, tree DBH and tree species group.

In land surface models, vegetation is often described using plant functional types (PFTs), a classification that aggregates plant species into a few groups based on similar characteristics. Within-PFT variability of these characteristics can introduce considerable uncertainty in the simulation of water fluxes in forests. Our objectives were to (i)...

To anticipate European climate scenarios for the end of the century, we explored the climate gradient within the REINFFORCE (RÉseau INFrastructure de recherche pour le suivi et l’adaptation des FORêts au Changement climatiquE) arboreta network, established in 38 sites between latitudes 37° and 57°, where 33 tree species are represented. We aim to d...

Wood is a very versatile raw material and thus an important resource for many industries, such as construction, furniture, pulp and paper, bioenergy and biorefineries (new chemical products). Using wood is one of the safest ways to reduce the CO2 emissions that are the main cause of climate change. Already today, a variety of innovative products ca...

For forest sustainability and vulnerability assessment, the landscape scale is considered to be more and more relevant as the stand level approaches its known limitations. This review, which describes the main forest landscape simulation tools used in the 20 European case studies of the European project " Future-oriented integrated management of Eu...

While sustainable forestry in Europe is characterized by the provision of a multitude of forest ecosystem services, there exists no comprehensive study that scrutinizes their sensitivity to forest management on a pan-European scale, so far. We compile scenario runs from regionally tailored forest growth models and Decision Support Systems (DSS) fro...

FOREWORD This document summarises the work that has been achieved after 5 years of efforts to set up the REINFFORCE infrastructure. It has been a huge challenge to move from the simple idea of designing a research tool for climate change adaptation to the actual implementation of this tool: to agree on protocols, find seeds, produce 150 000 seedlin...

This study developed a land cover classification for the Tempisque Conservation Area (ACT). For such purposes 239 infrared aerial photographies were orthorectified in order to develop the 2003 land cover map. The 1998 ECOMAPAS land cover map was used to compare and determine the land cover changes between years 1998 and 2003. An evaluation of the s...
