A previous study also supported the viability of measuring these two styles with the BenCor in 22 countries. The present study extends the previous one by including further countries (a total of 25 countries in 29 samples with N...

Over the past hundred years, linguistic schools have put forward and adopted either divergent or convergent positions regarding what language consists of. In this paper, I shall examine the dialogic turn in language study (i.e. language use is dialogic use, any action is dialogically directed either initiatively or reactively) so that readers can g...

In this paper, I put forward an analysis from a linguistic perspective of an ethnic category in Romania that is defined by at least two terms: gypsy and Romany. The concept of category refers to the members of a particular group that sets apart from other groups by a set of specific elements acknowledged at the level of a larger community. In inter...

In this article, I analyse laughter in everyday talk-in-interaction, both in professional and private contexts. The focus is on non-invited laughter units and on the relationship between laughter and identity construction. The main interest is to see if the speaker "announced" in any way that he/she expected a reaction (laughter included) from the...

In this paper, I consider dialogue in Parliament as central, because it is the dialogic instances that bring to the fore the multivocality of political discourse, and I will show there are "other voices [speaking] through the speaking voice" (Ionescu-Ruxəndoiu 2012, 152). I also start from the premise that, although restrictive and context dependen...

It is widely regarded that war journalism is centred on the dichotomy good/evil, with “good” being (almost always) on the author’s side, who promotes a type of discourse that readers should adhere to. In this paper, we put forward an examination of events in various conflict areas (Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Senegal, and Dagestan) in order to identi...

In this paper, I will discuss and analyse two main resources for interaction in the context of bed and breakfast interactions: spatial and weather. Introducere Intrate în peisajul mediului de afaceri românesc relativ recent, organizaţiile multinaţionale (corporaţii, grupuri etc.) au produs schimbări semnificative în modul de a comunica la locul de muncă.
