A lack of synchronization between nitrogen (N) demand and supply results in the loss of applied nitrogen from the soil-plant system. Leaf colour chart (LCC) based nano urea application according to crop specific need has the potential to enhance the crop productivity by reducing N losses. In this context, a field experiment was conducted during sum...
Broad based blanket recommendations of fertilizer nitrogen (N) in field may end up with lower N use efficiency because of large field-to field variability of soil N. At the identical time, crop should not suffer from the deficiency of N. Nitrogen fertilizer must be applied only when necessary and must be based on the crop’s nitrogen status. So, kee...
A field experiment was conducted on medium black calcareous soil at Junagadh (Gujarat) during rabi season of 2019-20 to study the effect of NPK levels along with city compost on growth, yield and economics of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under system of wheat intensification (SWI). Total twelve treatment combinations, consisting of three system of...
A field experiment was conducted on medium black calcareous soil at Junagadh (Gujarat) during rabi season of 2019-20 to study the effect of NPK levels and city compost on soil chemical and biological properties, yield and quality of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under and system of wheat intensification (SWI). Total twelve treatment combinations, co...
The overall yield loss in different crops due to weed infestation is estimated at around 36.5% in India. The use of herbicides is the only viable on-farm technology today to control weeds. More than 90% of herbicides are misused, and as a result, they are lost in the environment, do not reach the target site, and do not effectively reduce weeds in...
Horticulture, encompassing the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, medicinal, and aromatic plants, plays a pivotal role in sustainable agriculture and human nutrition. This article delves into the historical evolution, current practices, and future directions of horticulture, with a special focus on advancements in the cultivation and utilization of...
Hydroponics and aquaponics represent two of the most innovative and sustainable methods in modern horticulture. These soil-less cultivation techniques have the potential to revolutionize food production by maximizing resource efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and enabling crop growth in challenging environments. This article explores the h...
An experiment was carried out at Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh (Gujarat). The aim of the research is to evaluate herbicides bio-efficacy on yield, quality parameters of sweet sorghum and their residual effects on soil microbial diversity. The higher grain yield and fod...
Feeding the world's rapidly expanding population, projected to surpass 9 billion by 2050, poses a monumental challenge that demands innovative agronomic solutions. As arable land becomes increasingly scarce and climate change impacts intensify, traditional agricultural practices alone cannot meet the escalating food demand. Agronomic innovations, t...
Nanotechnology is revolutionizing the preservation of horticultural produce by significantly extending shelf-life through innovative approaches. By utilizing nanoparticles and nanomaterials, it is possible to create advanced packaging that inhibits microbial growth, reduces ethylene production, and maintains optimal moisture levels. These nanotechn...
Roots in Water: The Rise of Hydroponics in Modern Farming delves into the innovative world of hydroponics, a method revolutionizing agricultural practices. Through the absence of soil and the immersion of plant roots in nutrient-rich water solutions, hydroponics maximizes space, conserves water, and minimizes environmental impact. This abstract exp...
The farmers of Gujarat have turned to soybean cultivation as soybean demand is increasing promisingly. Improper weed management is one of the reasons for the large yield gap between the potential and the actual yield of soybean harvested by the farmers. So, the selection of different herbicides in soybean is necessary for effective management of co...
Precision agriculture is a series of strategies and tools that allow farmers to optimise and increase soil quality and productivity. Precision agriculture (PA) or precision farming (PF) is defined as the technology which involves the targeting of inputs to arable crop production according to crop requirement on the localized basis. The use of input...
Since, weed are the most important biotic constraints in garlic cultivation, it is necessary to have the strategy for the use of proper herbicide mixtures at right time, in right dose, by right method to attain target yield and economic benefit. In this view, field experiment was conducted on medium black calcareous soil at Junagadh (Gujarat) durin...
Weed management is an important part of successful crop production, but it can be a difficult and time-consuming process. To help farmers maximize yields and reduce herbicide use, AI-driven weed management is emerging as a promising solution. AI is being used in weed management for weed identification, precision weed control, predictive modelling a...
A field experiment entitled “Effect of foliar spray of water soluble fertilizers on growth, yield and quality of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)” was carried out under medium black clayey slightly alkaline soil in reaction with pH 7.8 and EC 0.33 dS/m during rabi season of 2019-20 at the Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, College of Agricultu...
An incredible amount of herbicide is used in agroecosystems to manage weeds, causing great public concern about the negative impacts on the environment. Herbicides can threaten agricultural safety and influence water and soil resources, human and animal health, non-target plants, and ecosystems. Herbicide residue means any specified substances in s...

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important heat-trapping/greenhouse gas that comes from the extraction and burning of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil and natural gas), wildfires and natural processes like volcanic eruptions. A higher concentration of atmospheric CO2 above the ambient is called elevated CO2. Open top chamber (OTC) and free air CO2 enrichm...

Can we use plastic mulch in crops for weed control where drip or any micro irrigation facilities are not installed?
Without drip the mulching should be practicable or not?
Experts please light on this with tricks and ideas so that mulching can't affect on irrigation.
Soil organic carbon is the largest reservoir of organic carbon in the terrestrial biosphere. Change in atmospheric CO2 could affect soil carbon storage through changes in plant and microbial activities.
"One year's seeding makes seven years' weeding!" Harvest weed seed control is an excellent approach which targets weed seed removal and/or destruction during the crop harvest operation. It significantly reduces the soil weed seed bank. Opportunities for harvest weed seed control and it's limitations should be discussed with available research & review articles. Thanks
