Introduction
Currently in bioinformatics I'm extracting knowledge from public metagenomic shotgun datasets. Previously I built up a database of gene ontology annotations for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is maintained by Uniprot-GOA, now that I have retired from full-time work. In software engineering I previously collaborated on the computer algebra system SageMath. Several papers in discrete mathematics complement my previous work as one of the editors-in-chief of the OEIS.

The Gene Ontology (GO) (http://www.geneontology.org) is a community bioinformatics resource that represents gene product function through the use of structured, controlled vocabularies. The number of GO annotations of gene products has increased due to curation efforts among GO Consortium (GOC) groups, including focused literature-based annotation...

Presented here are over one hundred conjectures ranging from easy to difficult, from many mathematical fields. I also summarize briefly methods and tools that have led to this collection.

Diese kurze Einfuehrung in Theorie und Berechnung linearer Rekurrenzen versucht, eine Luecke in der Literatur zu fuellen. Zu diesem Zweck sind viele ausfuehrliche Beispiele angegeben. This short introduction to theory and usage of linear recurrences tries to fill a gap in the literature by giving many extensive examples.

In [2] Alonso et al used nested PCR assays together with next-generation sequencing to find Trichosporon species in the nervous tissue of 10 patients with MS. We deemed it possible that the fungus would be present in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples. Whole metagenomic shotgun (WMGS) sequencing allows detection of any organism in a sample. With Tri...

The Gene Ontology (GO; http://www.geneontology.org) is a community-based bioinformatics resource that supplies information about gene product function using ontologies to represent biological knowledge. Here we describe improvements and expansions to several branches of the ontology, as well as updates that have allowed us to more efficiently disse...

In this short note we give an expression for some numbers $n$ such that the polynomial $x^{2p}-nx^p+1$ is reducible.

The Gene Ontology (GO) Consortium (GOC, http://www.geneontology.org) is a community-based bioinformatics resource that classifies gene product function through the use of structured, controlled vocabularies. Over the past year, the GOC has implemented several processes to increase the quantity, quality and specificity of GO annotations. First, the...

Divide-and-conquer functions satisfy equations in F(z), F(z 2), F(z 4).... Their generated sequences are mainly used in computer science, and they were analyzed pragmatically, that is, now and then a sequence was picked out for scrutiny. By giving several classes of ordinary generating functions together with recurrences, we hope to help with the a...

In this short note, we show that an integer sequence defined on the minimum of differences between divisor complements of its partial products is connected with the Josephus problem (q=3).
