Introduction
PhD degree in 1994 from the INP de Grenoble, France. Full Professor, Dep. of Linguistics, UNICAMP (Brazil). In 1999 I proposed a coupled oscillators model for dealing with speech rhythm, and continue to explore the consequences of this work in part of my publications. Main theme: experimental prosody . I am an author of 4 books: Incursões em torno do ritmo da fala (2006), Manual de Fonética Acústica Experimental with S. Madureira (2015), Prosódia (2019) and Ciências da fala (2022).

Conference Paper
This cross-language study aims to examine both expected and unexpected communication phenomena of silence intervals and overlapping speech events, respectively. Specifically, we investigate these interaction patterns in relation to speakers' self-pauses, considering their relative frequency and duration. Our research holds significance in offering...

This work proposes an odor-induced affect scale for use in the cosmetic industry that relies on the approach that produced the UniGEOS, a universal odor-related emotional scale from the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences. The Natura Emotion and Odor Scale (NEOS) was built on experiments conducted with a larger set of participants (491) and a set o...

Speech segmentation is required not only for linguistic research based on oral corpora, but had become essential for natural language processing. Many researchers have developed different approaches to deal with the need of automatic segmentation of speech data. In this paper we discuss some of the prosodic parameters used as cues for boundary iden...

Speech has something special: it is not only the main and most natural form of human communication, but it is one of the most complex biological processes in our organism, both in its production and in its reception. Precisely because of this complexity, speech sciences constitute a multidisciplinary field of knowledge, dedicated to researching the...

Phonetic alignment is the task of finding the limits of phones and higher units in an audio file. This has been reliably done in many languages such as English, French and German, but, so far, no available Brazilian Portuguese aligner had a performance comparable with the ones used for these other languages. Thus, the main goal of this work was to...
