Project
This research will fill in crucial blanks in our knowledge of the island-hopping colonisation route taken by the earliest Homo sapiens in Southeast Asia, including probable ancestors of the first Australians. It will also trace the movement of the early Neolithic settlers in the region. Specific aims are: • To identify Pleistocene rock art traditions across the Indonesian archipelago (from Sunda, Wallacea, and Sahul) and linked them to the arrival and movement of the earliest Modern humans to reach the region. • To investigate whether stylistic changes in Pleistocene rock art across the Indonesian archipelago marks the arrival of new people in the region and if so, can their movement be traced through analyzing and dating their rock art. • To trace the arrival and movement of the early Neolithic farmers in the region through analyzing and dating their rock art.
Project

Until now we uncover more than a thousand images from 50 rock art sites in South Misool and several human burial in rock shelter. The National Research Center of Archaeology was research on 2014 and 2016. This year we will survey to reach the limestone hils from Gamta river.
