Introduction
My research explores the marginal spaces in which so-called "vulnerable" people live and the particularities of relational work in the context of coercion, from a qualitative perspective. I also study how socio-legal norms intersect and contribute to the legitimacy of professional interventions. The aim of my actual work is to strengthen the ethical competence of health professionals working at the margins of society and to improve psychiatric & mental health nursing advocacy.

Human enhancement technologies raise serious ethical questions about health practices no longer content simply to treat disease, but which now also propose to “optimize” human beings’ physical, cognitive and psychological abilities. These technologies call for a reassessment of our relationship to health, the human body and the body's organic, iden...

Forensic psychiatric nursing is a specialty at the junction of two well-researched intersecting systems with two mandates: criminal justice and health care. Nurses' involvement at one of the systems' points of juncture, review board (RB) hearings, has largely been left unexplored. At RB hearings, a panel of legal and healthcare professionals determ...

Introduction: Violence in psychiatric settings has negative consequences on patients, staff, and the institution alike. In recent years, Quebec’s health care system has slowly been making room for advanced practice nurses (APNs). There are two categories of APNs: the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and nurse practitioner (NP) roles. The CNS role, which emerged in the 1970s, was created in response to an increased complexity of patient care in the hospital setting. T...

Les oubliettes avaient jadis pour fonction d’accueillir en leurs murs les condamnés à l’emprisonnement perpétuel ou, à tout le moins, ceux dont on souhaitait se débarrasser. Increase of political conflicts and environmental crisis results in approximately 3,5 million people to seek asylum annually. In response to this, countries have criminalized irregular migration across their borders and implemented a system of detention in order to control the flow of migrants. The literature on migrant detention reports the negative outcomes of incarceration on mental and physical health of refugees and asylum seekers. However, little is known about the significance they place on detention as well as the differences and similarities in the experience of children, mothers, and fathers whose detention conditions usually differ. The objective of this study is to present the methodology and results of a metasynthesis of said literature about the experience of families of asylum seekers detained for migratory reasons.
