Introduction
Pierre Van Damme is full professor at the University of Antwerp and chairman of the Vaccine & Infectious Disease Institute (VAXINFECTIO, University of Antwerp) (established in 2008. It is formally recognized as ‘Centre of Excellence’ of the University of Antwerp. The Centre for the Evaluation of Vaccination, one of the entities within VAXINFECTIO, conducts research in epidemiology of inectious diseases and in vaccinology (performing since 1984 more than 300 vaccine trials).
