Project
This project aims to unveil and study the forgotten work of the Swiss photographer Pierre Rossier (1829-1886) who was among the first professional photographers in China, Japan and Kingdom of Siam, between 1858 and 1862. Through his experience and his photographs, the goal is to analyze the early diffusion in the West of photographs taken in Asia through the emergent commercial photographs and stereoviews' market.
