Geophilus carpophagus Leach, 1815 has long been listed as regionally extinct from Finland. Here we report its rediscovery after decades of absence.
The monotypic genus Nukuhiva Berland, 1935 with N. adamsoni (Berland, 1933) as type species, is re-described and transferred from the Pisauridae Simon, 1890 (fishing or nursery-web spiders) to the Lycosidae Sundevall, 1833 (wolf spiders) based on genitalic and somatic characters. Nukuhiva adamsoni, originally described from French Polynesia, appear...
Summary The type species of Misumenops, Misumena maculissparsa Keyserling, 1891 from Brazil is redescribed from its type material. A closely related, but widely confused species, Misumenops pallidus (Keyserling, 1880) (♂♀) from Bolivia and eastern Brazil to northern Argentina, is redescribed and compared with the type species. The revised concept o...
Henderson Island, a raised coral island on the extreme south-easterly edge of the Indo-Pacific plate, is of great importance as one of the few examples of a Pacific island with intact lowland forest. It is also of biogeographic interest as it is practically the final island in a series of island chains, along which the fauna of Polynesia has coloni...
The pardosine genus Passiena Thorell 1890 is redefined and relimited. Passiena has excellent diagnostic characters, in particular the male pedipalp that carries a unique group of soft spicules on the distal part of the palea. The female of the type species, Passiena spinicrus Thorell 1890 from Malaysia, is illustrated for the first time. A new spec...
The trigoniuline millipeds, Leptogoniulus sorornus (Butler) and Trigoniulus corallinus (Gervais), the latter apparently native to southeast Asia, have been introduced into Africa, Central and South America, and tropical islands throughout the world. Literature records are summarized, new localities are presented, and diagnostic statements and anato...
A revised classification of the Holothyridae is presented. The family is restricted to archipelagoes from Melanesia to the Seychelles, with no known records from any continent. Evolution of holothyrid characters, phylogenetic relationships of the eight holothyrid genera and criteria for taxonomic categories in Holothyridae are discussed.
Holothyrus...
The Polynesian thomisid fauna is postulated as consisting of an Hawaiian E Polynesian New World group, living mainly in isolated populations in the mountains and of representatives of two western lowland groups originating from Australia and Southeast Asia. The former group has apparently speciated into numerous endemic species, while the latter gr...
Allergic reactions caused by dust in the working environment in Finland are most common in the various phases of handling grain and grain products, and also in sawmills. Therefore, these environments were selected for this study financed by The Finnish Work Environmental Fund.
Diagnostic characters of Stenochilus and Colopea are reviewed and corrected. Nine species of Colopea are regarded valid, including 6 new species C. malayana (Malayan peninsula), C. unifoveata (Borneo) , C. silvestris (Papua New Guinea), C. xerophila (Papua New Guinea), C. romantica (Bali & Sumatra), and C. virgata (Central Thailand & Vietnam). The...
Spider families Pacullidae and Tetrablemmidae are taxonomically revised and united into a single family that is placed into Sicarioidea. The tetrablemmid web is described: a small dense sheet along the surface of dead leaves. Ecological data is given for 52 species. The taxonomic value and evolution of different structural characters is discussed,...
