This chapter analyzes the effects of metropolization on territorial divisions, the dynamics of development, the ways of life at the intersection of space and society, and how territories produce resistance or explosive growth through metropolitan expansion and opportunities. We are concerned with medium-sized cities within a metropolitan context: p...
Megalopolis or Mega-city is a new scale that should not be defined by population numbers. We are in a new dimension, a new DNA. In the context of Megalopolis and regions where the scale of the urbanization goes beyond the traditional definition of a Metropolis, defining an effective governance structure and strategies is a challenging yet fundament...

Research of challenges of protection, presentation and management of built heritage in urban, metropolitan areas and megacities.
Right now, the metropolitan issue knowledge is fragmented into sectorial visions. Architecture, infrastructures, energy, economy, sociology, law or other disciplines give insufficient room to the role of organized data for integrated interdisciplinary field that new dimension of the city requires.
We understand this social need and we are deeply convinced that is the university responsibility to manage the nowadays-metropolitan complexity and fragmentation through a new HEI program able to build and use new ICT tools too.
Our attempt is to sketch out a disciplinary approach for a high quality of life within the metropolis (Lynch, Rodwin,1958) . We are convinced that modernity is essentially a research and that, in order to achieve an objective dimension in urban studies, we must go through an integrated logic of our respective disciplines that today are trying to explain the complexities of the contemporary metropolis by sectorial analyses. We also believe that it is necessary to raise the issue of local particular case to a more wide dimension, in order to fully understand the complex meaning of its insertion into the metropolitan network of relations.
