Introduction
To what extent is aquatic chemical communication affected by ocean acidification? For my PhD, I am linking computational chemistry with the ecology of climate change. Thereby, I am especially interested in the mechanisms behing stress-related and neurotransmitter-related chemical communication.

Simple Summary
Climate change potentially threatens biodiversity, and in a changing environment, it is vitally important that we learn to understand how animals react to the predicted changes. In marine organisms, the sense of smell governs almost all essential behaviours animals exhibit, from finding food and detecting a predator to finding a mati...
Worldwide, rivers are extensively fragmented by anthropogenic structures, reducing longitudinal connectivity,
inhibiting migration and leading to severe declines in many fish populations, especially for diadromous species.
However, few studies have determined the effects of annual differences in hydrology on catchment penetration
past barriers to s...
The reproduction of many brachyuran crustaceans involves the formation of mating pairs often around the time of the female moult with attraction of a sexual partner and mating behaviour controlled by sex pheromones. In shore crabs, Carcinus maenas , females produce sex pheromones that are released in the urine. High Performance Liquid Chromatograph...
Chemical communication via infochemicals plays a pivotal role in ecological interactions, allowing organisms to sense their environment, locate predators, food, habitats, or mates. A growing number of studies suggest that climate change‐associated stressors can modify these chemically mediated interactions, causing info‐disruption that scales up to...
Estrogens are well-known to regulate development of sexual dimorphism of the brain; however, their role in embryonic brain development prior to sex-differentiation is unclear. Using estrogen biosensor zebrafish models, we found that estrogen activity in the embryonic brain occurs from early neurogenesis specifically in a type of glia in the olfacto...
With carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) levels rising dramatically, climate change threatens marine environments. Due to increasing CO 2 concentrations in the ocean, pH levels are expected to drop by 0.4 units by the end of the century. There is an urgent need to understand the impact of ocean acidification on chemical-ecological processes. To date, the extent...
Estrogen is well-known to regulate development of sexual dimorphisms of the brain, however its role in the brain during early embryonic development prior to sex-differentiation is unclear.
Using estrogen biosensor zebrafish models, we found that estrogen activity in the embryonic brain occurs specifically in a type of glia located within the OB, wh...
Numerous studies have estimated the abundance of plastics in our oceans and warned of its threat to wildlife. However, mechanisms underlying its attractiveness to marine life remain unclear. Though visual similarities to food sources have been suggested, recent studies show that biofouled plastics release dimethyl sulfide which marine fauna mistake...
