The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated and solidified the adoption of work-from-home systems (WFHSs) across all economic sectors, and finding ways to incorporate sustainability into these systems is a fundamental aspect of a sustainable future of work. Designing sustainable WFHSs requires an innovative approach capable of understanding complex interrela...
The responsible behaviour of consumers that purchase green computers is a form of sustainable consumption, as green computers use less energy resulting in less CO2 emissions and the use of fewer toxic metals and materials during their production. The research question is how to encourage such behaviour. Although prior research has provided some ans...
The Sustainable system-of-systems (SSoS) approach, complemented with econometric analysis was used to address China's decarbonization problem, i.e. selecting fossil fuel consumption sources to be reduced in various regions to meet CO2 reduction targets with minimal effect on population and economic growth. In the SSoS, the micro-level system is rep...
Purpose
Gender-inclusive adoption of multipurpose national-identity smart cards (MNIS) is important to ensure gender equality, particularly in accessing public services offered by the card e.g. identity verification, healthcare, transit, banking, driving license, passport, etc. The aim is to study the gender differences in terms of the motivation a...
Purpose
This study aimed to investigate the mediating roles of social and personal norms in the relationships between transcendent values (i.e. altruistic and biospheric) and responsible computer acquisition behaviour (RCAB). Previous studies suggested the role of norms in explaining the value–behaviour relationship. However, they did not provide s...
Prior studies of pro-environmental behavior investigated its antecedents from the perspective of either rational choices or moral norms. However, as highlighted by many researchers, green purchase behavior associated with high-cost products such as green computers can be influenced by both perspectives. Thus, this study aims to predict the influenc...
Despite the usefulness of computer-assisted audit tools and techniques (CAATTs) in increasing audit productivity and reducing costs, their adoption by audit firms is low in developing countries. The aim of this study is to investigate whether organizational and environmental factors can help explain CAATTs adoption in less developed countries, such...
In this paper we outline a vision for human factors/ergonomics and sustainability in the 21st century. The paper extends and updates earlier work by Moray (1995) which posed a number of global challenges for the discipline of HFE. In particular we point to several trends and priorities within HFE, these include: a shift away from specialization and...
