Amoxycillin and trimethoprim were compared in 50 children with acute otitis media. Both antibiotics relieved symptoms and were well tolerated. No statistically significant differences between the groups were found. It is proposed that trimethoprim is a suitable alternative to amoxycillin in children who are allergic to penicillin.
