Introduction
I study Law and Palaeontology, an emerging field of research that addressed the legal issues that arise from the extraction, ownership, and transfer of palaeontological objects. This involved areas of the law as diverse as cultural property law, private international law, international humanitarian law, international human rights law, or international environmental law.

Fossils, the remains of dinosaurs and other extinct creatures, are not an evident concern for legal scholars. Upon closer consideration, however, it becomes apparent that there is a broad range of pressing legal issues that relate to the extraction, transfer, and ownership of palaeontological objects. This contribution outlines Law and Palaeontolog...

While disputes concerning the return of antiquities and artworks have become increasingly prevalent and receive public attention, the parallel issue of returning unlawfully exported fossils is rarely discussed. The fossils of "Ubirajara jubatus" and Irritator challengeri are prime examples of such disputes: they were taken from Brazil unlawfully, a...

Debates on the restitution of colonial loot usually focus on art, antiquities, religious artefacts, and similar objects. Many fossils of considerable scientific and cultural value were also removed under colonial rule, yet they rarely feature in these discussions de- spite being classified as cultural objects. This article seeks to shed light on th...

Fossil material in amber from Myanmar can provide important insights into mid-Cretaceous forest ecosystems. However, Myanmar amber has been receiving increased international attention due to reported links between amber mining and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in northern Myanmar, as well as the legal issues associated with its exportation. Here,...

General clauses have often been criticised as gateways for morality and politics into law. These criticisms are often oriented towards the separation of powers in the constitutional state. General clauses are also widespread in numerous areas of international law, e. g. as exceptions in WTO law or in the form of bona fides. This essay transfers Fra...

Online dating has become a highly popular way of getting acquainted with potential partners. It is, however, not a risk-free pursuit, particularly for women, LGBTQI+ individuals, and other vulnerable groups. The article therefore explores the human rights obligations of dating platforms with regard to the prevention of technology-facilitated sexual...

To the Editor — The dinosaur fossil ‘Ubirajara jubatus’ was allegedly exported from Brazil in 1995 and is currently held by State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe (SMNK) in Germany. It has attracted the attention of the scientific community not only because of its intrinsic interest but also for the controversy surrounding its export from Brazil...

Amber from Myanmar is of outstanding value for palaeontology - but it comes at a high price: it is mined under the most dire conditions in a region with a decade-old history of armed conflict and mass atrocity crimes and then smuggled to China to be sold on a commercial market. While this issue has sparked substantial (ethical) controversy in palae...

The 2013 Arms Trade Treaty, the first comprehensive international agreement regulating trade in weapons, exhibits a number of deficiencies which have prevented the treaty from realising its potential and attaining its goals. Many of those shortcomings have been the result of the U.S. opposing stricter regulation during the negotiations. Since it st...

Question
Article 87 of the Code declares all translated versions of the Code to be "equivalent in force, meaning and authority." I'm curious about what happens if there is a difference in meaning between two (or more) authentic versions of the Code. So far, I could only find one Opinion of the Commission on this question (No. 2456), and the Commission even avoided pronouncing itself on the difference.
So, is anyone aware of any other relevant Opinions (or sources generally, for that matter)?
