The combination of SCWO with SCWG forms a unique system that has been tested in the present study at pilot plant scale using a single reactor with a flowrate of up to 150 kg/h. SCWO of a highly concentrated ethanol solution takes place in the first section of the tubular reactor, rising temperature. Then, an isopropanol solution is gasified into th...

The Supercritical Water Gasification (SCWG) of black liquor (BL) to obtain hydrogen and dispose of organic waste simultaneously has been studied in a continuous reactor employing short residence times. The experiments were conducted at 600–700◦C, with times between 24.5–29.1 s, at 23 MPa and feedstock was diluted to different concentration levels (...

Intertidal fish are adapted to live in a fluctuating environment and are considered suitable bioindicators of environmental change. Understanding the relationship between fish species distribution and environmental variables is fundamental for comparative analysis among geo- graphical locations and identification of long-term trends predicted by gl...

Thermochemical biomass processes can be used to transform organic wastewaters or biomass into energy or valuable chemicals. These processes normally require a water content below 10 wt.%. Hydrothermal technologies can be an alternative where an organic wastewater or biomass do not need to be dried, reducing the costs and the process takes place at...

Supercritical Water Gasification (SCWG) is an emerging technology with a great potential to recycle biomass and/or biomass residues and to produce hydrogen-rich gas. SCWG of Olive Oil Mill Waste (OMW) in a continuous reactor at highs waste concentration (7.1–23.5 gO2/l) and temperature (550–700 °C) had never been studied before. With a residence ti...

The reproductive cycle of seven common species (Gobius paganellus, Gobius bucchichi, Gobius cobitis, Parablennius sanguinolentus, Salaria pavo, Tripterygion tartessicum and Symphodus roissali) on rocky shores in the Gulf of Cadiz and their relationship with the sea surface temperature (SST) is analysed. Partial data on Scorpaena porcus are also giv...

Hydrothermal gasification is considered to be a promising technology for the efficient conversion of wet biomass residues into fuel gas. Unlike conventional gasification methods, such as methane fermentation or thermal gasification, Supercritical Water Gasification (SCWG) produce a gas fuel, it does not require a previous drying process and it has...
Article
Supercritical water gasification (SCWG) is a very recent technology that allows conversion of organic wastewaters into a fuel gas with a high content of hydrogen and light hydrocarbons. SCWG involves the treatment of organic compounds at conditions higher than those that define the critical point of water (temperature of 374°C and pressure of 221 b...

Supercritical water gasification (SCWG) is considered a promising technology for the efficient conversion of wet biomass residues into fuel gas. In this process organic compounds are treated in an aqueous medium at high temperatures and pressures, producing a gas effluent with a high percentage of hydrogen. Unlike conventional thermal gasification,...

The present work on the feeding ecology of Scorpaena porcus according to season, sex and size, is the first study carried out in the rocky intertidal in the NE Atlantic. Previous studies were carried out with fish collected in fishing grounds from Mediterranean areas. A total of 106 fish were caught in monthly samplings from April 2008 to July 2010...

This work studies the use of olive oil mill waste (OMW) treated as subcritical or supercritical water to produce both, a biofuel by liquefaction and a gas fuel by gasification. The increasing amount of OMW, both liquid and solid, is becoming a serious environmental problem. This wastewater is highly resistant to biodegradation and contains a wide v...

SuperCritical Water Oxidation (SCWO) technology has been intensively studied during the last decades due to the many advantages shown for the clean and effective treatment of a wide variety of industrial wastes. Above the critical point of pure water (Tc=374ºC and Pc=221 bar), oxidation reactions take place in a single reaction phase (no mass trans...

Biomass as a resource of energy has a growing interest to reduce both CO2 emissions and the consumption of fossil energy. Biomass treatment with subcritical and supercritical water gasification is carried out in this research. Baby nappies (diapers), an important source of waste that contain large amount of cellulose, have been studied for the firs...

Hydrolysis and SCWG of three cellulosic materials have been studied. In general: Slower heating process favoured the formation of volatile compounds in the liquid phase. Fast heating process produce a higher fuel gas yield. Higher production of fuel gas was obtained with fast heating (600 ºC) for cellulose.

Supercritical Water Gasification (SCWG) of organic substances is considered a promising technology for the efficient conversion of wet biomass residues into fuel gas. This gas may have a high hydrogen and light hydrocarbons content that could be used as substitute of natural gas. SCWG is a process which uses temperatures and pressures beyond the cr...

The regulation of minimum sizes of catch is one of the oldest and most widely accepted tools for the management of fisheries. The principal justification that has been given for this measure is that it prevents the fishing of immature individuals. It is a technical measure used to manage fishing, with the object of allowing sufficient numbers of ju...
