The railway process (1854-1940) in Andalucia contributed to the formation of a new territorial structure. The railway, built and used, was also a means of production: business networks, flows of raw materials and people, energy technologies that shaped the land and also were shaped by it. In this sense, the railroad, produced and producer of variou...

Question
GIS is still a new tool for Architecture Schools in Spain - when we talk about how this tool could be useful before, during and after planning. I am searching for a method and also experiences that have had great results.
Question
I´m working on a project proposal that will develop a historical event-based model and a historical SDI (snapshot model). I´m wondering which metadata standard suits better for both. The study case is in the Iberian Peninsula.
Question
I already have a geodabase of various hertitage elements. I would like to add a fotograph and a plan linked to these elements.
Question
I would like to work about Siza works in Portugal with my students in a territorial scale. I need the topography, rivers, cities and provinces delimitations in a shapefile format. Thanks
Question
Any research with GIS to predict or view environments patterns that could influence in the election of the shape and material that will be apply in a new building?
I´m trying to research about how GIS and sustainable architecture could work together to build better cities.
Question
In concrete, I need to represent a historical evolution of the construction works in a period of time. So I have a list of architects that were working in distinct buildings in different dates. That is, architect "A" in 1455 was working in building “X” and then in 1457 was working in “Y” building....

Project

Between 1848 and the mid-twentieth century, the railroad played a key role in the economic development of Spain, not only in the territorial configuration, but also in the social, political and cultural aspects. In Andalucia, the railroad has had, since its first line in 1854, an important influence on the urban growth, development and rise of cities, resulting in new urban structures which are, in our days, one of the major problems faced in the cities. This research proposes a spatial and historical analysis of the railroad heritage of Andalucía based on a Geographic Information System (GIS), which aims to generate a record of the railroad process in this area that started as a pioneer in Spain in 1829. It seeks to propose strategies for the management of this heritage as a cultural, social and economic resource and also for the development of activities aimed at strengthening the relationship between society -territory-heritages.
