Introduction
My focus is "Astronomy Communication, Education & Research". I am currently involved in three main projects:
1. Insights - How the discoveries were made. Catching the genius of the discoverers and explaining how they did it.
2. For your eyes only - Drawings of star forming regions using small but high quality instruments under the dark unpolluted skies of remote places.
3. Supernova Planetarium of ESO at Garching - As a writer of the text for the Kiosks for the planetarium of ESO.

We have studied five major historical events reported between 1630 and 1680 AD, where detailed references to the stars in the night sky are available. We show that the descriptions of the star patterns at that time are off by exactly ten days. We attribute this error in dating historical events due to the switch over from Julian to Gregorian calend...
We have studied the orientation of the caves in Ajantha and Ellora in India. A certain fraction of caves at Ajantha and Ellora seem to have been oriented towards specific events on the horizon in terms of solstices and equinoxes.
Developing countries like India have a huge population already trained to the level of basic schooling, but there is little awareness about astronomy in the society at large. The basic capabilities required for arduous work leading to an astronomical discovery exist but there is a lack of awareness, knowledge and confidence about the subject. Past...

Comet Halley, Comet Hale-Bopp and Comet Hyakutake using a Home-made mount by Arun Deodhar, Vile-Parle (E), Mumbai, India.
Venus Transit 8th June 2004, Mr. Arun Deodhar's collection
The photo shows the circular Earth’s shadow. This photo consists of six individual photos of the Moon at the time of Total Lunar Eclipse. The photos are taken with a Zenit Analog SLR camera on the fixed tripod.
This is my mount. I created it to photograph DSOs. In the photograph, left is West and front is North direction. The white color wheel should be rotated in clockwise direction. So the blue frame starts moving with the sidereal speed and goes down slowly towards West, as the stars appear to move. A small gray tube at the right side of the frame is t...
Ajantha and Ellora Caves in Central India are examples of Buddhist cave art and architecture. The caves at Ajantha are from 100 BC to 500 AD divided into two periods, early (100 BC to 230 AD) and late (260-500 AD) period corresponding to Satavahana and Vakataka periods (Jamkhedkar, 2009, 4). We have studied the directional and astronomical orientat...
Here I attach a small collage I made of TSE 2017 USA photographs. All photos were taken using my Canon 550D camera with a 50 mm lens. The experience was great as the totality was more than two and half minutes. The darkness fell across the land was not very black but blood red and temperature drop was sudden. There were thin Cirrus clouds but they...
This photographic montage is of very bright auroral display over Iceland on 27th Feb 2014 midnight. The temperature was near zero and location was south of Reykjavik near a frozen lake.
The aurora was really strong and was observed mostly Red in color for a few hours that night. This might be the due to the violent X 4.9 Class Solar Flare erupted...

Rohi - aka a-Bheda (RSB) is referred in Indian literature as an event of great significance. RSB is said to occur when either Saturn or Mars pass through the triangle formed by α α α α, ε ε ε ε and γ γ γ γ stars of the Taurus Constellation (or the V abha ). We have searched the literature and found descriptions of RSB recorded by several authors. W...
