Introduction
Parag Chatterjee is a researcher at the National Technological University (Universidad Tecnológica Nacional) in Buenos Aires, Argentina and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biological Engineering, University of the Republic (Universidad de la República) in Uruguay. After graduating from St. Xavier's College Kolkata (University of Calcutta), India in Computer Science, he is currently working on Artificial Intelligence toward predictive analysis of cardiometabolic diseases.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made a humongous impact in almost every sector across the world. Spanning from healthcare to transports, from education to manufacturing, the shudders of the COVID-19 have been felt in almost all domains. From a global perspective, with ensuing challenges posed by the pandemic, there is an increasing interest worldwide in developing solutions based on Internet of Things (IoT). The disruptions caused by the pandemic has invoked a sharp push in the use of these IoT solutions, like remote health-monitoring, intelligent air quality analysis, remote industrial maintenance, use of robotics for services, and many more.
The goal of this special issue IoT Toward COVID-19 is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry into a common platform, to showcase the state-of-the-art research and development in this field of IoT, addressing the key necessities and challenges while applying the solutions for combating COVID-19. Considering the advancements in the field of IoT through innovative and efficient solutions from areas like sensing, networking and communications, IoT infrastructures, secured data storage systems, cloud and edge computing, intelligent data management, and artificial intelligence, this special issue is aimed at proffering a common platform for different stakeholders toward combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
The special issue invites original research in the field of IoT applied to scenarios related to COVID-19. Also, high-quality surveys, tutorial and best practices showing the state-of-art and the latest trends in the allied fields are invited. Moreover, case studies would also constitute an interesting element of the special issue, to illustrate the applied aspects of IoT during the pandemic using real life scenarios.

Call for Papers:
The fast advancement in the domain of smart technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) has invoked advanced research and development in the domain of networking and communications. The skyrocketing demand for efficient and reliable communication mechanisms across the globe has generated a strong push in this field of networking and communications. Embracing new generations of mobile networks, 5G and beyond, the call of the hour points to rapid development in networking and communications. A comprehensive ecosystem of smart services is largely based on a diverse set of networks, to enable seamless communication among the stakeholders. Networking for smart communications span across a wide domain, wireless mobile networks on one hand, and allied concepts like Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, network and resource optimizations, on the other hand. Towards achieving smart ubiquitous communication, networking involves a lot of transdisciplinary interactions between architectural designs, protocols, analysis, optimization, and security.
This special issue is aimed at proffering a platform of dialogue between different stakeholders of networking to promote smart communications through highlighting the trending issues, core theoretical designs, implementational aspects, case studies, global challenges, and the future direction of this field.
Original and high-quality papers are invited from the potential authors.

When submitting your manuscript please select the article type “VSI: Smart Communications”. Please submit your manuscript before the submission deadline.
All submissions deemed suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Once your manuscript is accepted, it will go into production, and will be simultaneously published in the current regular issue and pulled into the online Special Issue. Articles from this Special Issue will appear in different regular issues of the journal, though they will be clearly marked and branded as Special Issue articles.

The aim of this project is to develop a portable measurement system that allows the detection and quantification of characteristic patterns in patients with movement disorders. This will be achieved from information provided by wearable sensors that will allow, in a non-invasive way, the recording and quantification of tremors, stability and rigidity, among other signs, for further classification, thus providing a diagnostic tool to the medical specialist. It will also seek to develop the system in a way that allows the registration of the aforementioned patterns in any environment, seeking not to interfere in the normal and daily activity of the patient. This registered information will be made available to the medical specialist by integrating the measurement system through an internet platform (IoT) for follow-up.
