Airport infrastructure evolves alongside legacy systems and processes that limit the ability to fully realise the efficiency potential of costly renovations. Airports will continue to take advantage of current and future technologies. Nevertheless, for such systems to work as efficiently as possible, the passenger should play an active role. This p...

Airport operations are undergoing significant change, having to meet pandemic requirements in addition to intrinsic security requirements. Although air traffic has declined massively, airports are still the critical hubs of the air transport network. The new restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic pose new challenges for airport operators in rede...

COVID-19 arrived in the world suddenly and unexpectedly. It caused major disruptions at economical, operational, and other levels. In the case of flight traffic, the operations were reduced to 10% of their original levels. The question after COVID-19 is how to restart the operations and how to keep the balance between safety and capacity. In this p...

Passenger flow management is an important issue at many airports around the world. There are high concentrations of passengers arriving and leaving the airport in waves of large volumes in short periods, particularly in big hubs. This might cause congestion in some locations depending on the layout of the terminal building. With a combination of re...

This study tackles the gate allocation problem (GAP) at the airport terminal, considering the current covid-19 pandemic restrictions. The GAP has been extensively studied by the research community in the last decades, as it represents a critical factor that determines an airport's capacity. Currently, the airport passenger terminal operations have...

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport was the second European airport in terms of traffic in 2019, having transported 76.2 million passengers. Its large infrastructures include four runways, a large taxiway network, and 298 aircraft parking stands (131 contact) among three terminals. With the current pandemic in place, the European air traffic network ha...

ANALYSIS OF POST-COVID 19 CAPACITY IN SECURITY CHECKPOINTS OF AN AIRPORT
Conference Paper
Full-text available
In this paper, a general approach for modeling airport operations is presented. Airport operations have been extensively studied in the last decades ranging from airspace, airside and landside operations. Due to the nature of the system, simulation techniques have emerged as a powerful approach for dealing with the variability of these operations....

Mexico City airport is the main gateway to the country since years ago. However, its growth has been hampered by the saturation of the airport which in most slots of the day it is impossible to accommodate more traffic. The latter can be only achieved by performing three activities: infrastructure expansion, optimization of the current resources or...
Thesis
The constant growth of air traffic, especially in Europe, is putting pressure on airports, which, in turn, are suffering congestion problems. The airspace surrounding airport, terminal manoeuvring area (TMA), is particularly congested, since it accommodates all the converging traffic to and from airports. Besides airspace, airport ground capacity i...
Thesis

The plan of the current government is to connect the two airports by a dedicated line, either by bus or other transport so that passengers and airlines can get the benefit of a coordinated operation. Performa...

Côte d’Ivoire produces about 42 percent of the world’s total Cocoa but processes only 30 percent of the total production. A large part of the country depends on the commercial benefits of the Cocoa production and supply chain of it. In this paper, we develop a simulation model that assess the performance of the logistics of the Cocoa supply chain i...

The airport of Mexico City has been declared saturated for most of the day. For that reason, the Mexican government announced a couple of years ago the construction of a completely new one which is supposed to be operative in 2020 in its first phase. However, the technical issues and the economic downturn in the country jeopardize the project; for...

The aeronautical industry is expanding after a period of economic turmoil. For this reason, a growing number of airports are facing capacity problems that can sometimes only be resolved by expanding infrastructure, with the inherent risks that such decisions create. In order to deal with uncertainty at different levels, it is necessary to have rele...
