At the end of 2011 the population of the world became more than 7 billion. For the daily needs of the increased population industrial production must be increased for social welfare. Day by day the life expectancy of the individuals’ is increasing and economic competitions of the nations change due to open economy. Hence to make a strong economy we...

This study will investigate the relationship between the implementation of GHRM practices and its impact on EP in medium to large-scale manufacturing firms in Cambodia, with GIMS as a moderating variable. The design of the present study was a cross-sectional survey that gathered responses from 217 managers from firms practicing GHRM. A culturally a...

This book seeks to provide interdisciplinary (nay, rather multidisciplinary) perspectives on poverty and development. The Cambridge Dictionary defines the word ‘poverty’ in simple terms as the condition of a person being poor. Classically, two major traditions for defining poverty are notable: relative and absolute. Relative poverty is defined as t...

‘May you live in interesting times.’ The oft-quoted expression, seemingly a benediction, is usually said in an ironic way. Life is much better in the ‘uninteresting times’ of peace and tranquillity than in ‘interesting’ ones, which are usually times of trouble. And here we are, living in the most interesting times in the history of humanity – in th...
Book
This book brings together interdisciplinary perspectives with the aim of broadening understandings of poverty. It contains both empirical and conceptual chapters, including those by local researchers, on a range of topics highlighting the relationship between poverty and sustainability. It cover themes such as: changes in the environment that pose...

Host-guest interactions have been widely examined in the literature, and the residents' attitudes have been the object of many studies that focus on identifying factors influencing such behaviour. However, no previous research has examined if the attitudes of residents change with increasing altitude of habitation. The present study examined the re...

Given the paradoxical results of impact studies of foreign aid on economic growth in aid-growth literature, the effectiveness of aid for growth still remains a subject of intense debate. Thus, applying panel cointegration tests, and panel fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) and panel dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) estimators, this...

Although monetary policy in Cambodia through its policy instruments is likely to have played an active role in contributing to GDP growth, which averaged about 8% annually during the study period; however, as the economy is affected by De Facto dollarization and most of the transactions are made in cash based, especially in US dollars, so this moti...

The purpose of foreign aid is to stimulate economic growth in aid-recipient countries; yet, literature review reveals mixed results: inconclusive or often controversial findings. By using time series annual data from 1991 to 2012, and applying Johansen’s multivariate co-integration test with vector error correction model (VECM) and the innovative...

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is widely believed to have positive effects on economic growth; yet for Cambodia, over 19 years (1993-2011) of attracting FDI inflows, the growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has averaged at 7%, which demand a modest attempt to study their relationship whether FDI drives growth of Cambodia’s economic output....
Conference Paper
The social welfare is defined as well-being and prosperity of entire society. Social welfare optimization problems, often used in economics to study important issues, have received a considerable attention of scholars in recent decades. In a social optimization problem, the sum of individual weighted utilities is maximized over all feasible allocat...
Article
The main aim of this paper is to study the effects of agriculture and other factors on poverty reduction rate in Cambodia. The results will provide a better understanding of the issue. Literature review reveals that several studies have been conducted separately to investigate the effects of either one explanatory variable or two explanatory variab...

This paper deals with Borda count which is sincere voting system and originally proposed by French mathematician and philosopher Jeans-Charles Borda. In Borda count a defeated candidate can manipulate the election result in his favor in sincere way by introducing a candidate which is a clone of him and voters ranked this clone candidate immediately...

The median voter theorem is one of the most prominent results of formal political theory and economics, and is widely used to study interactions between them. The median voter is the person in the middle of the distribution on the single dimension and is a more accurate predictor of decision outcomes under simple majority voting system. Politicians...

The main aim of this paper is to derive the mathematical formulation to device an optimal purchasing policy for the service providing agency. An attempt has been made to maximize the output function of an agency subject to a nonlinear budget constraint by assuming that the agency gets price discounts for purchasing larger quantities of other inputs...

In this paper an attempt has been taken to describe various types of voting system and manipulation of them. French philosophers Marquis de Condorcet (1743-1794) and Jeans-Charles Borda (1733-1799) introduced modern voting system. Duncan Black first introduced the manipulation of voting in 1958 in his book “Theory of Committee and Elections”. Condo...

The main aim of this paper is to awareness the people of Asia, especially India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who have very little knowledge about Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and situation of this disease in Bangladesh. Evidences from previous literature shows that due to ignorance of the people, HIV/AID...

Applying method of Lagrange multipliers, an attempt has been made to derive mathematical formulation to workout optimal purchasing policy in order to maximize utility of an individual consumer subject to multiple constraints; in this particular illustration, two constraints: 1) budget constraint, and 2) coupon constraint. An explicit example is giv...

Mathematical Economics, Social Science and Political Science are inter-related. In this paper, an attempt has been made to describe aspects of these subjects by introducing examples, definitions, mathematical calculations and discussions. Game Theory is included in this paper to study mathematical models in economics and political science especiall...

Mathematical Economics is closely related with Social Choice Theory. In this paper, an attempt has been made to show this relation by introducing utility functions, preference relations and Arrow’s impossibility theorem with easier mathematical calculations. The paper begins with some definitions which are easy but will be helpful to those who are...

Considering Cobb-Douglas function in three variables as an explicit form of production function, in this paper an attempt has been made to maximize an output subject to a budget constraint, using Lagrange multipliers technique, as well as necessary and sufficient conditions for optimal value have been applied. We gave interpretation of Lagrange mul...

One of the economists’ missions is to predict the behavioral responses of consumers or firms on the assumption that optimizing continues. Once this capability is developed, economists try to manage “today” to optimize future economic return of the inputs. Techniques to predict future performance vary from an educated guess based on an appropriate a...

We collected quantitative data on 5 points Likert Scale (Strongly agree = 5; Agree = 4; Neither agree not to Disagree = 3; Disagree = 2; and Strongly disagree = 1) via self-administered questionnaire survey. Questions were grouped into three components: (1) Behavioral component; (2) Cognitive component; and (3) Affective component. Respondents were students of the final year in the field of Business Management, with a focus on entrepreneurial start-ups. The study aims to assess Business Students’ Attitudes towards Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Education.
Question
  • Coronavirus affects different people differently. The economic slowdown due to COVID-19 has resulted in a reduction of income from all sources (except for pensions) among both rural and urban households. To ensure inclusive recovery, in which no one is left behind, what are your top 3 recommendations of what is needed in terms of policies and/or programming to combat the long-term Impact of Covid-19 on extreme poverty in your country/area?
