RiuNet is an interactive educational tool that guides any citizen in the assessment of the hydrological and ecological status of a river. At the same time, it is a Citizen science project since it provides scientific data to the researchers of the Freshwater Ecology, Hydrology and Management Research Group (FEHMlab) of the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences of the University of Barcelona.

The Ecological Quality of the Rivers of the Province of Barcelona is a long-term study (from 1994 to present) program that collects data of the ecological status and macroinvertebrate diversity of the five rivers of the province of Barcelona (Llobregat, Besòs, Foix, Ter, and Tordera) and the coastal streams. From 2013, we are also focusing on the study of the effects of Environmental and Climatic Change in the macroinvertebrate community of Mediterranean Rivers.
