In this paper, new formulations to predict the change in mechanical properties, namely, post-yield stiffness and characteristic strength of lead rubber bearings (LRBs) at low ambient temperatures, are proposed based on test results. Proposed formulations consider not only the effect of low temperature but also the effect of exposure time to low tem...

Flat-slab is a reinforced concrete slab supported directly by columns without beams. Since there are no beams in the system, the load transfer between the vertical structural system components is only possible with the reinforced concrete slab. Therefore, the earthquake behavior of flat-slab buildings is not so good and is considered risky to be ap...

The fundamental period is an essential parameter in the force-based design of buildings as it defines the spectral acceleration and thus the base shear force to which the building should be designed. The fundamental period can be computed based on modeling or utilizing si...

The fundamental vibration period of a building is a crucial parameter for earthquake engineering. The equivalent seismic lateral force is determined from a design spectrum in most static design methods. Accordingly, the earthquake force is a function of the fundamental vibration period of the building. The fundamental period of an existing building...

The majority of existing buildings are not safe against earthquakes in most of the developing countries. Existing building stocks should be assessed with a seismic safety assessment method before a devastating earthquake. Cheaper and quicker rapid seismic safety assessment methods can be used instead of code-based assessment methods to determine th...

Project
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (DEMP), 117 citizens lost their lives, and 1032 were injured in the buildings destroyed and severely damaged in the earthquake off the coast of İzmir on 30 October 2020, bringing the current building stock to the public agenda. It was also seen in the Izmir earthquake that the most crucial reason why earthquakes turn into disasters is that buildings that are not resistant to earthquakes are destroyed or severely damaged, causing loss of life and property. One of the most critical reasons buildings collapses in an earthquake causing loss of life and property, is the buildings' structural irregularities and defects. In this project, the effects of the soft-story and weak-story irregularities, which are very common in our country, will be examined on reinforced concrete buildings' earthquake behavior using ambient vibration measurements. It is planned to develop an empirical equation to estimate the fundamental building period depending on the building height used to design such buildings and determine seismic performances.
Project
The aim of this project is to determine the building height, building area, and building construction year data using remote sensing data and techniques, which are necessary for seismic vulnerability assessment studies of existing buildings planned to be carried out on an urban scale and which are expensive, time-consuming and labor-intensive to collect with traditional methods. The data extracted from the remote sensing data and techniques will be further processed in a Geographical Information System (GIS) for building inventory.
