Ancient city centres are characterised by inadequately planned/unplanned land use and unsecured tenure system, leading overtime to the development of different forms and grades of slum in and around urban core area. This research studied the slum in the urban core of Akure, Nigeria deploying tools of Geographic Information System for comprehensive...
Abstract This study aims at assessing how riparian zones have been altered through various land use activities and the implications of its capacity to mitigate flood. The study focused mainly on examining the land use/land cover changes within the riparian zone over a period of 20 years. The vulnerability of the riparian zone to flood were analyzed...
Globally, natural habitats and biodiversity-rich zones have greatly declined due to human activities leading to break down of the ecosystem's ability to function. Hence, the need to profile the rate of biodiversity change/loss in coastal areas to ensure sustainability. This study employs Geographic Information System (GIS) for monitoring biodiversi...
Ecosystem services and the natural capital stocks that produce them are critical to the functioning of the Earth's support system as they contribute to human well-being. A relationship exists between human wellbeing and poverty as low human well-being could translate to high levels of poverty. However, changes in ecosystems has brought about dimini...
This study investigated changes due to erosion and the consequences of rising sea levels on the Transgressive mud coast of Nigeria using multispectral Landsat images and ALOS PALSAR (AW3D30) elevation models with the view of proffering a management strategy for a sustainable coast. Endpoint Rate (EPR) and Linear Regression Rate (LRR) techniques wit...
Flooding is regarded as one of the world's most dangerous natural disasters with great highly devastating social, economic and environmental impacts. This study employs the use of a GIS-based multi-criteria decision approach (MCDA) and flood frequency analysis to assess the flood potential zones and magnitudes in the Osun River basin. Six flood cau...
Urbanization comes with the price of the negative complexity of crime while the fear of crime as a key concern for society and safety is a vital feature of a high-quality sustainable environment. This paper inspects the theories of street connectivity and evidence from people's perception of areas vulnerable to crime, intending to find the associat...

Marshes are among the most productive ecological coastal habitats on earth that provide more ecosystem services to coastal populations. Humans have modified coastal marshes at a grand scale, altering species composition, distribution and ecosystem functions thus, resulting in various environmental impacts along the coast. Globally, studies to asses...

Abstract:
Community-Driven Development (CDD), as an approach to community development, treats the people and their institutions as assets and partners in the development process. Infrastructure provision is a catalyst to communi...
Mangrove ecosystems have been exploited and marginalized over the years with little or no knowledge of the residents and relevant stakeholders on the extant of the effect of this degradation to human well-being. Mangroves are vulnerable ecosystems that provide numerous benefits to people both locally and globally. These benefits include but not lim...
The threat of the increasing global temperature is now of global concern than ever before. This prompted the authors to gain insights on the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon in a medium-sized city of Akure, Nigeria. A random sampling of three hundred and twenty-five (325) structured questionnaires was administered and analyzed with the aid of the...
Background and Objective: Human actions threaten all of the Earthʼs ecosystems. The resultant effect of human exploitation has left the
ecosystem further degraded and the innate human dependence on its services less sustainable. Consequently, this study estimated the
total land area for the ecosystems within the study area and assessed the level of...
One of the major challenges of Akure in the past two decades is the uncoordinated residential density development. This paper examined this haphazard development by mapping out the housing density mix in selected residential neighbourhoods in the city with a view to developing an e-land pricing model for its effective land management therein. The s...
Poverty and crime are great challenges Nigeria has experienced in recent times. Poverty keeps being on the rise with the dwindling national economy and crime incessantly committed thereby posing threat to human lives and national development, thereby necessitating inquests by researchers, scholars and keen observers of the condition of poverty and...

This paper assesses dynamics of e-Land pricing mechanism for managing residential densities in a medium sized city in South West, Nigeria. Objectives of the research include assessment of e-land pricing interface, land price prediction and e-land pricing reform among others. Total number of buildings in the selected residential estates was counted...
Land pricing has produced a new order of residential density arrangement in Nigeria urban centres. There is a noticeable variation in land prices with the levels of residential density distribution in Akure, Nigeria. The research looked at the emergent residential density pattern in Akure, as a result of the pricing profile of land especially at th...
One of the greatest changes that have occurred in the last century in developing countries is the urban growths which have produced more slums in our cities. The study examines the physical conditions in Makoko, an urban slum in Lagos, Nigeria. Geographical information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) technologies were used, in a post classific...
This study makes use of Markov chains modeling to predict sprawl and pattern of land use change in Akure region. Efforts were made to examine the trend of the expansion using Aerial Imagery Interpolation (AII). It focuses on overlaying of Landsat TM imageries of 1986, 2002, 2007 and 2014 to determine the land use changes and extent of expansion bet...
Growth of peri-urban area is a consequence of high rent, need of individual dwellings and employment opportunities. Hence, many social services like housing, education, transportation, infrastructures, and healthcare are relatively inadequate owing to unplanned growth. The distribution of most public facilities in peri-urban area of developing coun...
The use of satellite imageries and spatial analysis techniques have not been comprehensively explored and exploited in capturing baseline information for monitoring of ecologically fragile areas in most developing countries including Nigeria. This study used Landsat imageries of Akure 1986, 2002 and 2011, and topographical map, DEM, GPS points, mea...
This paper examined the use of GIS and Remote Sensing in detecting the sub urban growth in the Federal University of Technology Akure over a period of 28 years. In effect, the study sought to identify and explain the rate and extent of changes in the study area between 1986, 2002 and 2013; assess the impact of the university campuses on land use pa...
Complex and interrelated processes drive coastal changes. Inundation, which is one of several possible responses to sea level rise, will be the primary response in many coastal regions. This is inclusive of the Nigerian coastal zone especially in the Niger Delta as there is minimal sediment transfer due to the Kainji Lake reservoir, which traps a s...
Environmental Management Systems (EMS) is an explicit set of arrangements to manage an organisation's interaction to ensure that environmental impacts are controlled and continual improvement in environmental performance is maintained. The benefits of EMS include cost savings concerning energy, water, waste and transport; management of environmenta...

I have a manuscript I prepared together with 2 undergraduate students based on a project we concluded a few months ago. The article is focused on assessing management strategies adopted in a wetland resource towards progressing environmental justice. However, we prefer a free-to-publish journal because by our budget we cannot afford the usual $1000 - $2000 processing fees charged by most open access journals. Can you please assist with free-to-publish journals we can consider to publish our manuscript?
Alternatively, are there any other possible ways to publish the manuscript with relatively low cost without jeopardizing the quality of journal? Many thanks.
From my little findings, I realize that the dimensions of the concept of environmental justice include distribution justice, recognition justice, and procedural justice. I want to know the indices that make up each of these dimensions as well as the method(s) to ascertain the extent by which progress is achieved towards environmental justice. I welcome links to research output as well.
Many thanks and kind regards.
GDP is one of the vulnerable elements in a climate change emission scenario study. I need to be sure which type of GDP is meant to be reported and the importance of the the two calibrations. GDPppp vs GDPmer. Many thanks.
