How we measure 'reads'
A 'read' is counted each time someone views a publication summary (such as the title, abstract, and list of authors), clicks on a figure, or views or downloads the full-text. Learn more
We present bird observations from the region of Tiris Zemmour, northernmost Mauritania, in April 2017. These include nine species not previously recorded in the region, 17 other range extensions, and new breeding evidence for nine species.
A series of phylogeographic studies in the Maghreb identified a repeated pattern of deep genetic divergence between an eastern (Tunisia) and western (Morocco) lineage for several taxa but lack of sampling in Algeria made it difficult to know if the range limits between the eastern and western lineages were shared among taxa or not. To address this...
The list of used tissue samples, their geographic origin and GenBank accession numbers. Latitudes (LAT) and Longitudes (LON) are given in WGS84 geodetic system. The locus is specified only when there is concatenation of 2 loci for the phylogenetic reconstruction, otherwise see the material and methods for the used marker. (DOCX)
Surveys carried out in 2016 and 2017 on all Algerian islands showed two Eleonora's Falcon populations, one in the east and another in the west. Nine islands or groups of islands are concerned harbouring a minimum of 445 nests. In the two subsets of islands, an obvious population growth has occurred over the past ten years with movements between the...
The greater mouse-tailed bat (Rhinopoma micro-phyllum Brunnich 1782) is reported for the first time in Algeria from two caves of the Boukaïs region (Bechar). Noseleaf shape, forearm and tail lengths clearly identified this species. The frequency of maximal energy of echolo-cation calls varied from 28.2 to 31.2 kHz for hand released individuals.
We report on the first modern records of Acanthodactylus spinicauda Doumergue 1901, a species until now only kown from museum specimens collected before 1899. The only known localities are in north-western Algeria in the arid zone at the transition between the northern Sahara and the southern High Plateaus. We rediscovered the species 50 km away fr...
In ecological impact assessments, wildlife habitats sensibility is determined by experts, and is often difficult to be demonstrated from an objective point of view. However, standardized methods are lacking for producing spatial analyses compiling various ecological sensibilities on site. By linking the European protection classifications to local...

Mauritania is one of the countries of Africa where bat diversity is the most unrecognized (PADIAL and IBÁÑEZ, 2005). Only thirteen species are listed in the country against a potential of more than thirty (NICKEL, 2001; MICKLEBURGH, et al. 2002). In the framework of a naturalist expedition undertaken from March 24 to March 28, 2008, we surveyed a p...
