The project is aimed at the research and development of novel efficient scintillators and phosphors based on complex oxides, in which crystal structure disorder serves as a controllable modifier of scintillation and luminescent properties such as light output and thermal stability. Non-homogenous distribution of cations controlled by Zn/Cd ratio in ZnxCd1-xWO4 solid solutions is expected to confine the length of charge carrier thermalization, thus modifying energy transfer processes, and is considered as a key factor for the enhancement of scintillation light output. Influence of structural disorder, induced by phase transitions due to Na+ mobility at elevated temperatures (300-500 K), on the luminescence properties will be studied in novel NASICON type crystals Na3X2(PO4)3:Eu2+ (X = Al, In, Sc, Lu and Y) with the aim of proposing a new pcLED phosphor.
