MicroRNA-21, an oncomiR, plays a pivotal role in carcinogenesis and is upregulated in many cancers including oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Use of smokeless tobacco (ST) products and cigarettes smoking in causation of OSCC is well established. This study sought to reconnoiter miR-21 expression in relation to smoking and chewing habits among s...
The study aimed to evaluate the bibliometric research of Library and Information Science (LIS) research contributed by the authors affiliated with the University of Karachi (UoK), Pakistan. The dataset was limited to 22 years from January 2000 to December 2021 and a list of evaluated papers has been proved from various online and print sources. Goo...
Background: Medical librarians support curriculum and research by delivering appropriate and high-quality information and facilities to students and faculty members. COVID-19 pandemic disrupted physical teaching and learning worldwide endorsing virtual education which was supported by digital information resources. The purpose of this study was to...

Background: The risk of transmission of novel SARS CoronaVirus-2 among health care workers can be reduced using personal protective equipment. It is critical to follow guidelines for appropriate use of protective gear to avoid its wastage. This study aimed to evaluate frontline healthcare workers’ understanding of effective donning and doffing of p...
Background: The present study was conducted to evaluate the frequency of different types of Oral Mucosal Lesions (OMLs) and to identify the associated risk factors. Methodology: A retrospective study was conducted at the Department of oral diagnosis in collaboration with the department of oral pathology SIOHS, Karachi Pakistan between January 2017...
Background: The recent global crisis afflicted by Coronavirus has led to psychological consequences like anxiety, fear and insecurity among health care workers. Fear of contracting infection and transmitting to close contacts has emerged as a serious concern. Through this study, we aimed to evaluate different psychological sequel experienced by med...
Background:
Locoregional spread is a frequent finding in oral cancer which dictates poor prognosis. HMGA2 expression has been linked to malignant traits of oral cancer in tissue biopsies however, data on HMGA2 expression in liquid biopsies in oral cancer is sparse. Purpose of this study was to explore prognostic relevance of HMGA2 in liquid biopsi...
Objective: A single nucleotide polymorphism at Let 7 miRNA binding site in 3/UTR of KRAS, creates a variant allele KRAS-LCS6 observed to impart poor prognosis in oral cancers. Objective of this study was to explore diagnostic and prognostic relevance of KRAS-LCS6 variant allele in oral squamous cell cancer.
Methods: Study was conducted on a total o...
Objective: To identify the distinct anatomical sites of the oral cavity those are susceptible to the occurrence of cancer among patients visiting a tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. Methods: Around 329 participants were enrolled in this retrospective study which was completed at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in Karachi, Pakistan fro...
Background & objective:
The high-throughput analysis of circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) is an active area of biomarker research. The oral cancer remains a common cancer among Pakistani males that continues to present at an advance stage, thus exhibiting poor survival. MiRNA 21 (miR-21) is the most consistently over-expressed miRNA in different type...
Objective
A recent trend in diagnosis of oral cancer in young age is observed, however its impact on various clinicopathological parameters needs to be explored. The aim of the current study was to compare and analyze impact of age at diagnosis with clinicopathological parameters of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients.
Methods
In this cross sect...
To evaluate association of serum visfatin with CKD secondary to diabetic nephropathy and to compare it with patients of CKD secondary to other risk factors.
Seventy eight individuals including 28 healthy controls and 50 patients of CKD were included in this study. Patients with CKD were further grouped based on etiology of CKD into diabetics and no...
Objective: Visfatin is proposed as an adipocytokine secreted from visceral fat and its blood level correlate with obesity, diabetes mellitus and inflammation. Aim of this study was to examine association of serum visfatin with measures of obesity in a group of patients with diabetic nephropathy and normal controls. Methodology: This was a cross sec...

I am working on a project on miRNA and their target gene deregulations in oral cancers. I am checking differential expression of miRNAs in plasma of cancer patients and comparing it with healthy controls. Can i use a term liquid biopsy alternatively for expression in plasma? as this expression is not checked on tissue.
I believe the differential expression in plasma is due to circulating cell free nucleic acids in plasma so a term liquid biopsy may be used. i need clarification regarding this term.
