As a result of the open mine operating, the possibilities of using wetlands and its nearby environments which are formed in abandoned areas were investigated. The research was carried out in the wetlands and its nearby areas between Çiftalan and Kısırkaya in the north of Istanbul. The flora, soil and water characteristics of the new ecosystems formed over time in wetlands and its surrounding areas, and fish species living in wetlands were identified. By protecting them, it was aimed to meet the various needs of the community (eco-tourism, water sports, paragliding, fishing, recreation, camping etc.) by planning those that have recreational potentials. In the flora study conducted in the project area, 366 taxa (4 endemics) belonging to 74 families were identified. In the water measurements of 11 lakes in the area; the mean values of pH (5,3-9,0), electrical conductivity (343,5-1894,6 μS/cm), temperature (16,7-18,3°C), dissolved oxygen (8,37-11,78 mg/l) was found. In the analysis of water samples taken from the lakes, some heavy metal and macro element values were measured. At the end of the measurements, it was determined that the waters of 10 lakes are 1st and 2nd-degree water quality and that they can be used for multiple purposes and that the waters of a lake are 4th-degree water quality in terms of particularly heavy metal concentration and that this lake was regarded as polluted. In soil analysis; The soil acidity varies between the mean (5,7-7,0 pH) and the EC value (114,8-846 μS/cm). Four species of fish (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, Mirror carp, Tinca tinca, Esox lucius) were determined in the lakes. According to Gülez (1990), the area has a high recreational potential (64%). With 136 specialists and 404 public questionnaires applied, the demands and expectations of the people and opinions and recommendations of the experts were determined. In this direction, the suggestions of the using of the area were presented and stain-based land using plan was prepared
