Introduction
Bachelor’s in environmental management and analysis at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), where I was involved through the Department of Environmental Sciences (DCAm) in research and extension projects applied to urban environmental planning, ecology ecosystem restoration, environmental education and geoprocessing. Winner of the Young Scientist Award 2013. Professional action with social collectives in participatory processes, especially in São Carlos. Master’s in urban engineering (UFSCar), where I developed guidelines for the elaboration of urban projects of reduced environmental impact. Master’s in urban and regional planning at Polytechnical University of Madrid (Spain) where I conducted a research exploring the relationships between social diversity and urban complexity.

A convergence of academic production related to São Carlos city, located at São Paulo State, Brazil. Its space, dynamics and political processes were investigated focussing on the implications for the urban configuration and the environmental quality of the territory. The researches were also directed to the production of new analysis tools based on GIS that could be used to describe some sociospatial relations, mainly related to the understanding and use of the open spaces of the city.
An interdisciplinary perspective was used to frame the theoretical and methodological approach of the studies, that usually were conceived from some practical inquiries about such reality and aimed the production of results with potential contributions for a wide public and academic debate on the city tendencies.
In the search to matching the development of urban systems and the balance of natural ecosystems, this research aimed to structure guidelines to orient the development of reduced environmental impact urban projects. In order to analyse its potential, it was suggested their application in peri-urban expansion zones of São Carlos (São Paulo State). Additionally, urban instruments and regulations were analysed regarding the potential application of the proposal.
